Early Top 25 College Basketball Rankings- Rankings 5-1

WE HAVE MADE IT! The last leg of the Overtime Heroics college basketball rankings are coming later in this article. Some of you may have saw our other rankings up to this point, and there were a couple of surprises for some. There is going to be another one of those surprises in the top five as well. Here we go as we count down the five best teams in college basketball in 2020-21. Here is number five.

5. Iowa Hawkeyes

It might be a surprise to see Iowa inside of the top five, but I am all for it. Luka Garza announcing that he will be returning to school was the biggest news of the NBA draft deadline. All the starters for Iowa also return for the Hawkeyes. Just like the Badgers, experience put them here.

4. Virginia Cavaliers

Virginia ended the 2019-20 season on a really hot streak, winning eight straight games. Three of their starters will be returning for Tony Bennett, plus some other weapons. One weapon I am extremely excited about is the addition of Sam Hauser, the transfer from Marquette. He brings a great offensive game that can elevate the Cavaliers to a AP Top 25 spot this season.

Villanova Wildcats

Even though Nova lost Saddiq Bey, who was one of the best, if not the best player on Villanova, they will be just fine. Everyone besides him will be returning to Jay Wright and that includes PG Colin Gillespie. Gillespie is a crafty guard that can create his own shot and shots for others. He will be key for the Wildcats as they look for another Big East title.

2. Gonzaga Bulldogs

Mark Few’s squad took a hit when the news came out that Filip Petrusev decided to take his talents overseas. But that won’t stop Gonzaga from making an appearance in the top three of the rankings to start the year. They continue to be loaded in the front court with Corey Kispert and Joel Ayayi returning. Gonzaga has a real shot a the number one spot, but I think one team deserves it more.

1. Baylor Bears

The Baylor Bears had their fair share of time at the top of college basketball last season, and they will look to do the same this year. Baylor returns their top three scorers from last year. Mark Vital also returns, he was named a finalist for defensive player of the year. Jared Butler is the glue for this team to play well and I expect nothing less from a top spot from the Bears this year.

That wraps up this years Overtime Heroics College Basketball Top 25 rankings. If you want to hear more of the men who put these rankings together, go follow @worldofcollege1 and @editsrecruiting on twitter. Hopefully we get a college basketball season!
