Some Reasons the Dolphins Could Be Looking to Sign Jake Rudock

The Miami Dolphins cut, quarterback, Jake Rudock from the roster on July 25th, 2020. Recently, Rudock has been visiting the Dolphins organization and could possibly be resigning with the Dolphins, per Barry Jackson.

Josh Rosen Trade?

First, could be, the more obvious reason, that the Dolphins may be looking to trade Josh Rosen to another team. Rosen is currently quarterback three on the Miami Dolphins depth chart. If Rosen was traded to a quarterback-needy team, then he could possibly be a backup. Some possible teams that he could be traded to would be the Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears, many more. Lots of teams are not in need of a starter, but they could begin to mold Rosen into a good starter after either there veteran quarterback retires or they are not willing to pay the big money to a mediocre quarterback. Overall, Rosen being traded is probably the number one reason for the Dolphins wanting to sign Jake Rudock back to the roster.

Ryan Fitzpatrick Possibly Retiring

Second, Ryan Fitzpatrick is now 37 years old, which is an old age for a quarterback in the NFL. He would love to be able to play, but out of the three quarterbacks, he is the only one anyone could see getting dead arm. Obviously, Fitzpatrick is right now the starting quarterback heading into the season, but because of his age and the pandemic, we could see a potential retirement at the last second. Overall, I doubt this will be the case unless Fitzpatrick had a major injury done to his arm or shoulder during training camp.

Conclusion

We’ve heard from Barry Jackson, that one of the quarterbacks have been having a dead arm, which could be concerning if it was a younger quarterback. It makes sense that Fitzpatrick’s age could finally be catching up to him. On the other hand, we could as easily see a last-second trade with Rosen heading to another team. Overall, Rudock is most likely, possibly getting signed as an emergency backup quarterback or just to give, whoever had a dead arm, a break from throwing the football.
