NDSU’s Trey Lance Will Get One Game This Fall In Front of NFL Scouts

NDSU's Trey Lance

NDSU has signed a contract to play Central Arkansas on October 3rd. Giving the Bison quarterback, Trey Lance, one of the nation’s top prospects, the game film he would not have been able to since the Missouri Valley Conference postponed fall sports due to the virus.

NDSU had reached out to multiple schools, trying to get a game to play this fall. Since the Missouri Valley is allowing non-conference action. One of those schools was Nebraska. However, that request was denied, as the Big Ten board postponed all fall action, not just conference games.

The Bison also had another non-conference opponent on their schedule this year that would’ve drawn a lot of attention, Oregon. The Pac-12 suspended all games like the Big Ten, so that game was also canceled.

NDSU could likely reach out to the ACC, who has allowed one non-conference game, but their schedule has been set. It’s a fluid situation. Anything can happen.

The school does expect to play a full slate of conference games in the spring. However, since Lance is a projected top-15 pick by many scouts, the quarterback could use the game film as could every other Bison and Central Arkansas player eligible for the draft.

NDSU’s Trey Lance could join two other Bison quarterbacks that were drafted in recent years. Carson Wentz was the number two overall pick by the Eagles in 2016, and Easton Stick went in the 5th round to the Chargers in the 2019 NFL draft.

This also allows the team to continue practicing as if their season would happen, which consists of a 20-hour week of workouts, film studies, and football activities.

No word yet from the NFL on if they’ll move the draft to accommodate the spring schedules, but the NCAA has chosen to give every scholarship athlete who plays a fall sport one more year of eligibility even if they play in a conference that hasn’t suspended fall sports.

This game will have a lot of eyes on it. Since it’ll be the first time, the country will see Lance play after becoming draft-eligible.
