Stars Score Five Unanswered Against The Avalanche.

The Dallas Stars courted the Colorado Avalanche 5-2 in game two. Dallas now has a 2-0 lead in the series and looks to take a 3-0 stranglehold. Before we touch that, let’s take a look at the game that was.

First Period:

After losing both Philipp Grubauer and Erik Johnson in game one, the Avalanche were pressed to pick up the pieces. The first period was all Avalanche with them outshooting the Stars 20-6. A rocket blast by Nathan MacKinnon puts the Avalanche on the board off a very well-timed pass by Mikko Rantanen. 1-0 Avalanche.

Second Period:

Things looked to continue going the way of the Avalanche to start the second. Instead of MacKinnon on the finish, it is him on the setup. A nice pass from around the Stars net leads to Rantanen burying a one-timer past Anton Khudobin. 2-0 Avalanche.

The fun, unfortunately, comes to an end for the Avalanche from there, as the Stars offense quickly pounced back. Shades of game six vs. Calgary, Dallas quickly got on the board during a 5 on 3 powerplay. Joe Pavelski slaps a one-timer past Pavel Francouz to get within one. 2-1 Avalanche.

While one powerplay expired, the Stars still had another to cash in on. A scramble in front of the net leads to Radek Faksa whacking the puck through Francouz and dislodging the net in the process. 2-2 tie.

The next goal was a very strange one. Off the faceoff, we see Captain Jamie Benn throw the puck towards the crease. The puck then bounces off Samuel Girard’s stick, and then the shoulder of Alexander Radulov. You need to see it to believe it. 3-2 Stars.

As if anything else can go wrong for the Avalanche, this happens. Joonas Donskoi mishandles the puck as a powerplay expires. Esa Lindell streaks down the ice and fires one into the pads of Francouz, before jamming in his rebound. 4-2 Stars.

Third Period:

While the first two periods were all offense, the final period was a less intense one. Shots favored the Avalanche 9-3, but they just could not solve Khudobin the rest of the night. Jamie Oleksiak sweeps the puck down the ice for the empty-net goal, and that was all she wrote.

Final Score: Dallas Stars 5-2 Colorado Avalanche

Dallas Lead Series 2-0

Three Stars of the Game:

First Star: Anton Khudobin 38/40 saves. .950 Save Percentage

Game 3 of this Series is set to take place Wednesday, August 26th at 9:30 pm CST at Rogers Place in Edmonton, AB.

Can Colorado get a game under their belt? Or will Dallas go up 3-0 in the series?
