Chicago Bears Week One Preview

Division game to start the year

The Chicago Bears will be facing the Detroit Lions in their first matchup of the 2020 season. A season that not a lot of us expected to be able to happen just a short time ago and, I for one, couldn’t be happier. Football is officially back and today we will preview the Chicago Bears week one matchup against their NFC north rivals, the Detroit Lions.

The Bears will be returning a lot of familiar faces this season. Players like Khalil Mack and Allen Robinson just to name a few. However, the Bears did upgrade a few key positions that you should know about.

Tight End

One of the positions that got better was tight end. Jimmy Graham (Free Agent) and Cole Kmet (Rookie) will be replacing Trey Burton (Colts) and Adam Shaheen (Dolphins) from the previous season. Even though Jimmy Graham isn’t what he once was, he is still an upgrade and will help bring some valuable leadership for the rookie Cole Kmet. One key matchup against the Lions will be the Bears tight ends against the linebackers of Detroit. Graham and Kmet will have a great opportunity to control this game if they can win their matchups against players like Jarrad Davis and Jamie Collins.

Cornerback

The Chicago Bears decided to let go of cornerback Prince Amukamara over the offseason. Then they drafted his replacement in the second round of the NFL Draft. That player is Jaylon Johnson out of Utah and Bears fans should be very excited to see this player grow. Having said that, Jaylon will be tested early and often come Sunday. If he is to start opposite of Kyle Fuller, he will have to try and shut down a solid veteran in Marvin Jones. Jaylon needs to win this matchup for the Bears to have a realistic shot at winning this game.

Best Matchup to Watch

The best and most fun matchup to watch this coming Sunday will be the Bears Allen Robinson against the Lions third overall pick Jeff Okudah. Robinson Vs Okudah will be a fun matchup for years to come but this week is where it all begins. Okudah was by far the best cornerback in college football last year playing for Ohio St, however, Allen Robinson will be the hardest test he’s ever had to face.

Prediction: Bears 21 Lions 13 with Jimmy Graham and Allen Robinson each scoring a touchdown and rookie Jaylon Johnson with a late interception to seal the game.
