The Denver Broncos are playing on Monday Night Football to start the 2020 season. We take a look at their opponent and some key factors that will help them win their first game of 2020.
Tennessee vs Denver
Date: Monday, September 14
Game Time: 10:10 PM ET
Venue: Empower Field at Mile High Stadium, Denver, CO
The Titians have some big weapons that the Broncos have to keep an eye on when playing them Week 1.
Henry is arguably one of the best running backs in the league. Henry finished the 2019 season with 1540 yards and 16 TDs. In the offseason he signed a new contract that will have him in Tennessee for 4 more years, and make him $50 million richer. He is going to be the backbone of this offense. If he is running well, expect the team to follow suit.
Tannehill found a home when he got to start for the Titians. Last season he had a completion rate of 70.3%, and an average of 9.6 yards per completion. He had a very good season last year but we will have to see if he can keep it going in 2020. If the run game is there I can see Tannehill doing well. If you make the Titans have a pass-only offense then mistakes will happen.
Last year Brown had 22.3 yards per catch, and 1051 yards in the whole season as a rookie. He was by far Tannehill’s favorite target last year. This is one guy that you have to make sure you cover. He has a year under his belt now and is someone you have to make sure you pay attention to on gameday.
The only star on defense. He is a total ball hawk, and it showed last year in the playoffs. Byard is also a safety that isn’t scared to line up in the box and come down to hit someone. With a young quarterback you have to know where this guy is at all times and make a game plan to stay away from him.
Keys to Denver’s Victory
Having a Healthy Defense
Denver has a very good team. The injury bug bit them hard last year and that hurt them late in the season. For the first game they will get Bradley Chubb, and Bryce Callahan back. Also, it will be interesting to see Jurrell Casey playing his old team. The Pro Bowler was traded for only a 7th rounder so he might have some bad blood with his former team. It is a chance to get some revenge and it will be interesting to see how that will play out.
Get Rolling with the New Offense
The next big thing that Denver has to do in game one is getting that young offense rolling. With a new offensive coordinator and different scheme it will be interesting to see the offense in action on Monday. It will be good to get everyone on the same page for the first game and build that chemistry. Drew Lock will also be playing his first season as the full time starter. It will be nice to see how he takes control of this team and what he needs to do to lead this team to a playoff spot.
Productivity Out of the New Guys
The last thing that the Broncos need for a victory is to get their new additons involved. Jerry Jeudy, Jurrell Casey, Melvin Gordon, A.J. Bouye, and even Graham Glasgow. All of these players need to make some type of an impact for a win.
The Broncos are currently the favorite in the game by 1.5 points. If the Broncos want to win this game they have to either stop Henry or slow him down. They also have to produce on offense. It will be interesting to see this new young group play.
