Week 2: 5 Lions Players to Watch vs the Green Bay Packers. Plus Prediction

As week two is upon us, I continue on with my five “Lions to watch”.

1. RB D’ANDRE SWIFT

Swift had a less than desirable debut last week after dropping the would-be game-winning touchdown with only seconds left. Swift did have a rushing touchdown and showed off some of what he has to offer. Even though Swift did not get many touches in his debut, he did average more yards per carry than Kerryon Johnson. In week two he will be looking for a bounce-back game vs the Packers.

2. RB ADRIAN PETERSON

Peterson was the best player in a Lions uniform last week. He proved that he has plenty of gas left in the tank with 92 rushing yards in a limited role vs the Bears. The Lions staff has said they will go with the hot hand at running back as the weeks go on. Peterson may be the starter for the season, considering he was by far the best back during week one.

3. CB JEFF OKUDAH

Not to piggyback off my list from last week too much with the same first three, however, they are the three most important to watch. Swift needs a bounce back, “All Day” was the player of the game, and now Okudah.

The rookie corner was supposed to make his debut last week but could not get over his hamstring injury in time. This week he was a full go in practice and is scheduled to make his debut vs Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. The young corner is going to get thrown right into the fire vs the hottest quarterback in the NFL and one of the best receivers in the game.

Lions

4. WR Quintez Cephus

Cephus led the Lions with 10 targets, which is impressive by itself let alone for a rookie fifth-round pick. Cephus totaled 43 yards in his three receptions. With Golladay most likely out for the second week in a row, I believe Cephus is going to be a big target once again for Matthew Stafford.

5. S Tracy Walker

Walker was the Lions’ best defender last week, leading the team with nine tackles in a part-time role. Walker has seen some of his snaps get taken away with the Lions giving more playing time to Will Harris. The young safety did not play well and actually made my duds list after missing several tackles. Look for Walker to have another big game and show why he needs to be on the field all the time.

GAME PREDICTION:

With Golladay out, as well as several key defenders, I don’t see how the Lions walk away victorious. If they can’t contain the Bears offense they don’t have much hope to stop the Packers. The good news for Lions fans is that the Packers defense is not as highly touted as the Bears so maybe they can put up more points than last week.  Prediction: Lions 23- Packers 31
