Salvador Perez In Running For Comeback Player Of The Year

Salvador Perez

Royals fans dearly missed their Gold Glove catcher in Salvador Perez throughout all of 2019. Perez went down early in Spring Training of 2019 and had to miss the entire season due to Tommy John surgery. This was devastating, as their captain was sidelined. Also, fans were not able to see the smile on Salvy’s face at the ballpark every gameday. He also was not able to do his “Salvy-Splashes” to the post-game interviewee.

During the 2019 season, Perez did travel with the club, but did not see any action on the field. Despite this, he was able to teach younger catchers like Cam Gallagher and Meibrys Viloria. However, in 2020, Perez has looked as good as ever at the plate and behind the dish, helping a lot of young pitchers.

At The Plate

The 2020 season has been a short season, but a memorable one for the Royals catcher. Salvador Perez missed some time due to blurry vision in one of his eyes. However, Perez has continued to hit regardless. With four games remaining on the season, Perez is batting .356, with 10 homers and 29 RBIs. In his most recent game against the St. Louis Cardinals, Salvador Perez went 3 of 5 with 2 home-runs and 5 RBIs.

Behind The Plate

Salvador Perez is a multiple time All-Star catcher. Without him last year behind the dish, this caused lots of young pitchers to struggle. However, this year, the likes of Brady Singer and Kris Bubic have a load of confidence knowing they have a veteran catcher helping them locate every pitch. With this, it helps the Royals who are currently in the rebuild develop their young arms that have been improving as the season goes on.

Conclusion

As Salvador Perez has shown, he has rebounded after a nightmare of a 2019 season. Having to be sidelined and watch teammates go out and play every day, while Salvy sat in the dug out watching and preparing to be ready for next season. In 2020, Perez came back from Tommy John and now is making his case for comeback player of the year in the 2020 MLB season.
