Defense proved once again why it was a strong suit for the Indianapolis Colts at the start of the 2020 NFL Season as they shut down the Chicago Bears Nick Foles and held on for a 19-11 win.
Foles had been somewhat of a hero for Chicago last week in Atlanta against the Falcons as he bailed out Mitchell Trubisky and produced a come from behind win. We know his pedigree as well with the Super Bowl 52 win and MVP.
Offense Solid In Colts Third Win
Before we break down the defense, we should look at the Colts offense, which struck on its first possession and had no turnovers the entire game.
Rivers struggled with three turnovers in his first two games and has zero in his last two. This was by no means a spectacular offensive performance, but it didn’t hurt Indianapolis either. That’s progress for him and should be something to build on.
Colts Defense Star Of The Game Against the 1-3 Bears
Indianapolis’ defense also received a serious shot in the arm with the addition of 2018 Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and 2017 All-Pro cornerback Xavier Rhodes. Buckner three total tackles while Rhodes had three solo tackles.
All-Pro linebacker Darius Leonard left with a groin injury and did not play the second half, but the Colts had Julian Blackmon step up with his first career interception when he picked off Foles in the fourth quarter.
The Colts defense has been the stingiest in the NFL so far, including being the No. 1 scoring defense and in allowing yards per game.
They have also given up just 29 points while also intercepting seven passes over the past three games.
The Colts are back in action this Sunday against a 3-1 Cleveland Browns team in Cleveland.
