Charlie Blackmon: Man on Fire

If you are a fan of the Colorado Rockies, you already know all about Charlie Blackmon. Even if you aren’t a fan, you probably still know about how good he is.

Despite missing nearly 20 games so far this season, he’s already hit 18 home runs and leads the National League with six triples. Since returning from the injured list, Blackmon has at least one hit in thirteen of his sixteen games. He has three or more hits six different times since returning from the injured list, including having three or more hits in five straight games from June 13 to June 18.

In his first three games of that five game stretch, he had four hits in each game. During that five game stretch, he went 18 for 29 with eight extra-base hits. His OPS has been an outstanding 1.262 in the sixteen games that he has played in June.

That stretch brought his average up to .330 despite being below .300 for most of the season.

His .330 average is well in line with how he usually plays, as he’s known to get on base a lot. In 2017, he won the batting title with a .331 average while also leading the league with 213 hits. Last season he slowed down a bit, hitting .291, but he also led the league in runs scored. Right now, scoring runs is Blackmon’s biggest talent. Even though he missed nearly 20 games this season, he has scored 54 runs and is on pace for 120 or more. He’s scored 119 times or more each of the last two seasons, with 137 being his career best.

What lies ahead in the future for Blackmon? Will he stay this hot? Can he keep helping the Rockies down the line? Only time will tell.
