Wide receiver Michael Thomas did not show up on the first day of the New Orleans Saints training camp. This was expected due to the dispute over his contract extension. He is looking to hold out to get the contract he believes he deserves. Earlier this week, Michael Thomas lowered his asking price from 22 million a year to 20 million a year. The New Orleans Saints are staying firm at 19 million.

Should Michael Thomas be one of the highest paid wide receiver in the NFL?
The New Orleans Saints have been looking to find the second go-to receiver. Michael Thomas is the only weapon on the wide receiver core that quarterback Drew Brees has. Running back Alvin Kamara was the second leading receiver with 81 receptions. Thomas had 125 receptions which is 91 receptions more than the next wide receiver.
Drew Brees will be leaving the game soon. The New Orleans Saints will receive a devastating blow to the future of their passing attack without locking Michael Thomas up for the future. This organization has not had one multiple Pro Bowl receiver since Drew Brees became their quarterback.
Michael Thomas market value will be set at 20.4 million. The Saints will deliberate on whether to give him his value. Keep in mind, he is the only weapon on the receiving core and he is a top five wide receiver in the NFL. Also keep in mind that he will make only two million dollars more than the second best yearly earnings at his position.
In conclusion, this may be Drew Brees’ final contract and last chance to get another Super Bowl ring. His best shot will only be throwing the football to arguably one of the best receiver in the NFL today. The New Orleans Saints front office need to offer Thomas his extension and take advantage of this opportunity.
