OTH- Daily Odds 8/2/19

OTH- Daily Odds 8/2/19 is part of a daily series providing you with the odds for all major sports being played that day.

MLB

2:20 EST Brewers @ Cubs – The Cubs and Brewers bats have been rather quiet this week so far, but both teams have high-powered offenses and today could be the day where they break out of their funks. Today’s pitching match-up features Zach Davies and Jose Quintana. These two faced each other last Sunday, with the final score being 11-4. In his last two outings Davies has given up fourteen runs. Quintana has given up at least three runs in seven of his last nine starts, including all four of his July starts. With a beautiful day in Chicago, and the Cubs scoring at least six runs in each of Quintana’s last five starts, we like the bats to come alive today for both teams.

Picks: Game Over 9(-105), 5 Inning Over 5(-115), Cubs Over 4.5(-105), Brewers Over 3.5(-140), Yes, there will be a run in the first (-125)

7:05 EST White Sox @ Phillies – White Sox optimism has been halted after the All-Star break, as they have went 4-16, including losing 8 of their last 9. Their offense has been sluggish since the All-Star break, as they have scored under 4 runs in 15 of their 20 games (Under 3 in 14 of them). They will send Ivan Nova to the mound on Friday. They have lost his last three road starts, as he given up 14 runs in 16 and ⅔ innings in those starts. Overall, Nova is 3-5 with a 5.12 ERA in 12 road starts. The Phillies will send their new pitcher, Jason Vargas, to the mound. Before being traded, Vargas had won his last three starts. He has given up three runs or less in fourteen of sixteen starts this season. Phillies opponents have scored four runs or less in seven of their last nine games. Look for the Phillies to win tonight.

Picks: Phillies -1.5(-105), Phillies First 5 -0.5(-135), White Sox Under 4.5(-150), Phillies Over 5.5(-115)

7:05 EST Mets @ Pirates – The Pirates have lost 10 of their last 11 games, including being swept by the Mets last week. Tonight they will send Trevor Williams to the mound. Williams has given up five runs over twelve innings in his last two outings, but in his two starts before that, he gave up 13 runs in 11 innings. On the season, Williams is 1-1 with a 5.71 ERA in 6 home starts. The Mets are winners of seven straight, and are now only four games back in the wild card race. Since the All Star Break, Mets opponents have scored under 5 runs in 15 of their 18 games. They will send Steven Matz to the mound tonight, who has pitched well since returning to the rotation. In his last three starts, he has given up four runs in 19 innings (1.89 ERA), including a complete game shutout last week against the Pirates.

Picks: Mets(-114), Mets First 5 (-130), Pirates Under 4.5(-140)

7:05 PM EST: Blue Jays @ Orioles–Fans in Toronto are getting a glimpse of what the future may look like in Toronto. The Jays have won their last four games, and five of their last six. Their offense has been really hot as of late, scoring at least seven runs in five of their last six games. With tonight’s pitching match-up, another outburst could be in store. The Jays will send Wilmer Font to the mound. Since coming to the Jays, he has pitched in four games and has given up four runs in eight innings of work. We like the Jays to win a high scoring game in this one.

Picks: Toronto(-137), Toronto -0.5 First 5(-105), Toronto Over 5.5(-130), Baltimore Over 4.5(-135), First 5 Over 6.5(-110), Game Over 11(-110)

Now they have to go face an angry Cleveland team who was hammered yesterday by Houston. Cleveland sends Mike Clevinger to the mound today, and he has been great in recent starts. He has given up one run or less in four of his last five starts. The Angels are countering with Dillon Peters who gave up five runs in four innings during his last start against the Orioles. Look for the Indians to take care of business in game one of this series.

Miley has started three games against the Mariners this year with the Astros winning all three, and two of the three have been by two runs or more. Since the All-Star break he is 2-0 with a 2.16 ERA with batters hitting just .176 against him. Starting for the Mariners tonight will be Yusei Kukuchi. The Mariners have lost eight of Kukuchi’s last ten starts. In his last start against the Astros he gave up five runs in five innings. Look for this Astros lineup to get on the board early tonight.

Two of those ten starts came against Kansas City, and he gave up five runs and six runs in those two starts. With these pitchers’ recent troubles, look for the bats to get going early and often.
