Cleveland Browns Trade Duke Johnson Jr.

Yes, it finally happened. After requesting a trade earlier in the year, Duke Johnson Jr. was traded to the Houston Texans. The Browns will receive a fourth round pick than can “become a third”. The former third round draft pick by the Browns never really got the touches he wanted. Although, he has shown flashes that he could be great in the league.

Johnson’s usage was never really high. In 2018, he ran the ball 40 times for 201 yards. He had 47 receptions, picking up 429 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was used as a third down receiving back most games. Johnson hasn’t proved much yet, which is why Cleveland wasn’t able to get much of a return. Johnson Jr. was persistent in his trade request, but participated in all activities. He stuck with the Browns through tough seasons, while not getting the touches he wanted. Fans have got to be appreciative of him.

For the Browns, it is a tough loss. With Kareem Hunt suspended for 8 games, Johnson was set to be a big part of the offense. Now, Nick Chubb and Dontrell Hilliard will carry the load in the back field. A.J. Ouellette should also have an opportunity if he makes the final roster.

Duke Johnson should more reps with the Texans who have been in search for a consistent running back since their loss of Arian Foster. Cleveland should hope the best for Duke Johnson Jr.
