Award races are heating up as we enter the final month of the MLB season. Although the Milwaukee Brewers have scuffled at times during this season, one player has stood out above the rest. Christian Yelich has been otherworldly for the Milwaukee Brewers during the 2019 season. Yelich slugged his way to his first MVP award during the 2018 campaign. Has he done enough to earn a second? The answer to that question is a resounding yes.
Why is Yelich MVP?
Well, for starters, Yelich is among the National League leaders in most of the major offensive categories. The right fielder is hitting .330 with 41 home runs and 89 runs batted in. On top of that, he has been incredible on the basepaths with 25 stolen bases in 27 attempts. Watching Yelich go first to third, or first to home, is like watching a lion take down a gazelle in the wild; simply breathtaking.
However, that’s only part of the story when talking about Yelich. He is far and away the most important player on the Brewers roster. This team would look like the Baltimore Orioles without him in the lineup on a regular basis. Milwaukee surrendered a lot of prospect capital in acquiring Yelich from the Marlins during the Winter of 2018. However, that trade has looked like a bargain for the Crew over the previous two seasons.
Yelich is more than just a bat too. Although he doesn’t make the “splashy” plays defensively, the 27-year-old has been more than adequate in the outfield. He has committed just three errors during 994 innings played in the outfield for the Brewers during this season.
Oh yeah, there’s also stuff like this that happens that shows what kind of personality he has:
That’s in response to a Twitter user named Roxane who had this to say about Yelich appearing in the new ESPN Magazine Body issue…
“it’s really sad how you didn’t give a thought to all the young kids that idolize you before doing your naked photo shoot.”
Wait, it gets even better. Yelich decided to take it one step further during Tuesday’s game against the Cardinals with this…
If that’s not definitive proof that Yelich is the true MVP of the 2019 season, then nothing is. Yelich has the attitude of an MVP on the field and he has it off of the field as well, and that shows up here.
