Week 4, a week before International Break, but this is where the most important games are played. Yes, the Premier League is off next week, but there are teams out there still looking for a boost to their season. For example, Watford still have no points yet and the one win teams will want more. This season is early, but these teams must not relax because of the break coming up.
Southampton vs. Man United
August 31st 7:30am ET– After last week’s away win at Brighton, Southampton will want to keep momentum going their way. They only have salvaged one win from three games, but are hoping for more. Similarly, Man United is finding their struggles. One win, one draw, and one loss for Man United so far and this “top six team” is missing firepower. As a result, they will want to win this crucial game to show they are still a top threat.
Chelsea vs. Sheffield United
August 31st 10:00am ET– Chelsea is a top team that should be doing better. They only have four points to start this season and have only been able to manage one close win against newly promoted Norwich last week. On the other hand, Sheffield United seems to be trending down. After getting points from their first two games in the Premier League, they failed last week after a tight loss to Leicester. If they could get points from this, it would be a huge success.
Crystal Palace vs. Aston Villa
August 31st 10:00am ET– Two weeks ago, Palace lost to Sheffield United. Then, in a very shocking game last week, Palace beat Man United. A huge success for a team that seemed to be struggling. Consequently, Palace will not want a repeat performance to another newly promoted team in Aston Villa. The Villans are coming off their biggest success of their season with a 2-0 win over Everton. Away from home, they will want that to continue as they take on Palace.
Leicester City vs. Bournemouth
August 31st 10:00am ET– Leicester is undefeated this season with two draws and one win. They have proved to be pretty stable this season and are strong in almost all areas. I expect the Foxes to win this match especially at home. However, Bournemouth is recovering from crushing loss to Man City and has been able to fend off two newly promoted teams. The Cherries are a young team looking for more victories this season. It will be a tough task away from home.
Man City vs. Brighton
August 31st 10:00am ET– Man City is in second place entering Week 4, a pretty good position to be in. Playing at home this weekend, Man City should not have trouble beating a Brighton side fresh off a loss to Southampton. However, Brighton will want to argue against that. They still have a chance. If they can play with a stable back line and hold De Bruyne back, Brighton may just get a point or points out of this.
Newcastle vs. Watford
August 31st 10:00am ET– The battle of the bottom two teams in the Premier League. This is a chance for either teams to get points. Newcastle beat Tottenham in last week’s shocker and got their first points of the season. They will need more to get them out of 19th place. Oppositely, Watford does not have any points yet to start the season. They have lost all three of their first games. Becoming a good relegation candidate, Watford will NEED to win this game before international break. No exceptions.
West Ham vs. Norwich
August 31st 10:00am ET– The Hammers are coming off their first win of the season against Watford and are looking pretty dangerous. Their new signing Haller is threatening and looks keen on keeping West Ham in the top ten this year. However, Norwich has the top goalscorer in the league in Teemu Pukki and are looking like one of the biggest threats of the season. Despite losing to Chelsea, Norwich looked sharp and almost got points from them. Both teams have a good chance to win.
Burnley vs. Liverpool
August 31st 12:30pm ET– Burnley has four points to start the season, which is not bad. They were close last week to getting six points, but due to Wolves’ last minute winner they only have four. As a result, goals like that just can not be surrendered in this game. Playing at home against the first place team, Burnley may have a rough time and will want to salvage something. After dominating Arsenal last weekend, Liverpool look on to the next challenge. Being away from home, Liverpool will have to really fight to get their usual three points.
Everton vs. Wolverhampton
September 1st 9:00am ET– Despite their successes in past years, Everton has struggled so far this year. For example, last week’s loss to Aston Villa and Week 1 draw to Palace are just two examples of their faults this season. With only one goal in three games, they will have to work for this win. Their opponents, Wolves, have three draws in their three games and just have not found the finishing touch. Away from home, it will be tough for them to triumph, but possibly.
Arsenal vs. Tottenham
September 1st 11:30am ET– The game of the weekend is the North London Derby. Both “top six teams” will have something to prove this game. Arsenal got hammered by Liverpool last week, but they still have two wins so far this season. They need this win because it will show they can be a top four team in the league. Conversely, Tottenham has been struggling. With last week’s home loss to Newcastle in mind, Tottenham will feel they need to get back on track. What better way to get their season back on track than beating their crosstown rivals.
