Entering Week 4, Man United dropped points in each of their last two games and they did it again on Saturday. After leading for the majority of the match, the Red Devils only managed a point against a ten man Saints team. On the other hand, the Saints were delighted with this result and salvaged a point against a “top six” team. Southampton are looking like a much better opponent than they were at the start of the season.
Southampton 1-1 Man United
Chelsea 2-2 Sheffield United
This game was a tale of two halves. Chelsea was able to control the home crowd in the first half and have a 2-0 lead. Two goals by Tammy Abraham show that he is a solid striker for this team. However, their advantage was equaled by Sheffield United in the second half. As a newly promoted side, Sheffield United are the happier of the two. On the other hand, Chelsea should be disappointed and they will need this international break to regroup.
Crystal Palace 1-0 Aston Villa
One of the most controversial matches of the weekend ended in sorrow for the Villans. With the game near its end, Villa fired a shot into the corner of the Palace net but, rather than allowing the goal, the ref booked a Villa player for a dive in the build-up. As a result, Palace has two straight wins and seven points on the season, which is a good place to be for them. Oppositely, Villa will want that goal back as they only have one win and three points on the season.
Leicester City 3-1 Bournemouth
Leicester has eight points on the season, which puts them at third in the Premier League. They are undefeated and they are in a marvelous position to be in at the international break. A dominant performance from Jamie Vardy sunk the Cherries. In effect, Bournemouth has four points on the season and is struggling. They have two losses in four games and they will want this international break to rest up.
Man City 4-0 Brighton
Despite their star defender, Laporte, going off with injury, Man City and Sergio Aguero steered themselves into second place in the Premier League. They have not lost a game, but will want to fill that hole in their defense over the break. Conversely, Brighton has not won a game since the opening day of the season. An away loss to Man City is not something to judge this team with. Brighton is a stable, consistent team, but just need wins in the win column.
Newcastle 1-1 Watford
After beating Tottenham away from home last week, you may think Newcastle would not have a problem with Watford. However, they did. Newcastle was able to only salvage a draw from a winless Watford team and keep them at the lower end of the table. Watford scored very early in the game and was able to get their first point of the season. They NEED this break to come together as a team and fix their issues.
West Ham 2-0 Norwich
Sébastian Haller had another game which he was on point. Presently, West Ham has two wins and one draw on the season after an opening day loss to Man City. This is a pretty wonderful turnaround for the Hammers. On the other hand, Norwich did not look like their normal selves. As a newly promoted team that managed a goal every game this season, Norwich looked unusual. They just could not score and now are 19th in the Premier League, which is a major drop down.
Liverpool 3-0 Burnley
Winning all their games so far this season, Liverpool did not have too much of a problem beating Burnley. The Clarets gave them trouble early on, but Liverpool just put the game out of reach. They are still first in the league and look like they are not having trouble. However, Burnley look shaky after not getting a win from their past three games. Their only losses are to “top-six teams” (Arsenal and Liverpool) and they will want to work harder against teams of this caliber.
Everton 3-2 Wolverhampton
After an opening twelve minutes, which saw three goals go in, Everton was leading 2-1. Late in the match, Wolves tied it, but Richarlison gave Everton the win. Everton earned their second win of the season against a tough Wolves team and are now in sixth place. This was a vital win for them. On the other hand, Wolves suffered their first loss of the season and have only three draws, but no wins. They just can not find that elusive first win and they will need wins to get back to where they were last year.
Arsenal 2-2 Tottenham
The Game of the Weekend was a thrilling one. After going up 2-0 with goals from Kane and Eriksen, Tottenham gave up their North London Derby lead and let Arsenal equalize. Many chances for the Gunners and the Spurs for them to win it, but neither could find that winning goal. It was a thrilling derby with both teams fighting for it. Arsenal will be the happier of the two as Lacazette and Aubameyang both scored and fought for the draw. Currently, they are sitting in fifth place. On the other hand, Tottenham is struggling with only one win from their first four games. This break is necessary for the success of this team.
