Dallas Cowboys: Less Pie for Prescott?

The Dallas Cowboys have been a busy bunch as of late negotiating and trying extending players. Names such as Jaylon Smith and La’el Collins were two names most of us didn’t expect to hear first. Jerry Jones sent a message to Ezekiel Elliott and company when signing Smith by stating “there is less pie left, make no bones about it.” He seemingly forgot to mention just how big the pie was. As of this morning, Elliott has ended his contract dispute to a tune of a six-year extension worth $90 million. Now that Zeke received his $90 million dollar piece of the pie, how much pie is left for Dak Prescott?

In August Patrick Walker reported that the Dallas Cowboys offered Dak Prescott a deal worth $30 million a year. However, Dak rejected the offer in hopes of receiving a higher annual salary. It appears he made the right move with Carson Wentz and Jared Goff both being paid during this time. Prescott only stands to benefit from these signings as both contracts average $32 million a year.

Prescott, a 2016 fourth-round draft pick, will become a free agent after the 2019 season. Dak, unable to be franchise tagged is playing hardball with America’s Team. He has thrown for 10,876 yards, 67 touchdowns and 25 interceptions through his first three seasons, with an additional 944 yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground.

Dak has a higher completion percentage, passer rating, and touchdown-to-interception ration than both Wentz and Goff. Both signed new deals this off-season worth $32 million per year on average. Wentz received $128 million with $107.9 million in guarantees and Goff obtained a record-setting $110 million in guarantees and $134 million total. Expect Prescott to walk away with a contract in the ballpark of $135 million with $108 million in guarantees.
