Week One Recap for the Michigan Wolverines

Week one is in the books and the Michigan Wolverines came out on top in a great way. Middle Tennesse was no pushover. They gave the Wolverines a fair amount of competition. At the same time, never really giving Michigan too much trouble that they were in danger of losing this game. Michigan had a slow start with a fumble on the first play of the game. That turned into a Blue Raider touchdown drive. The Wolverines fought back and scored 24 unanswered points, to not only to take the lead but pretty much close out the game in the first half.

In the second half, the Wolverines played most of their second, and third-string players. They tried to get everyone some game time experience while this game was out of reach of the Blue Raiders. Although the Wolverines did not have to struggle for this one, that is not to say there aren’t things to work on for next week. There were plenty of penalties and just overall coachable moments. This will allow the team to grow while maintaining the lead and getting some key players rest.

Players to keep your eye on

Freshman Zach Charbonnet was the star of the show, while only getting 8 carries he gained 90 yards for an average of over 11 yards per carry.  Charbonnet was all that was advertised and then some. Michigan may have finally found a feature running back. Not to be outdone quarterback Shea Patterson played better than most would think after watching the game, having 203 yards and 3 touchdowns. Although he had a low completion percentage of just 58% there were a number of drops on by the receivers. Patterson was dealing with an injury and barely played the second half turning over the reigns to QB Dylan McCaffery, who was no slouch himself totaling  59 yards of offense between his throws and runs.

After being injured most of the last year star WR Tarik Black was able to come in and make an immediate impact. Black was able to gain 80 yards and score a touchdown in only four catches.

Michigans defense also started a little bit slow but more than made up for it later with multiple big plays. Such as the interception by DB Ambry Thomas, or Jordan Glasgow’s multiple sack game. With Army coming to Ann Arbor next week the Wolverines need to kick it up a notch. Army possesses a very unorthodox offense that might be able to give the Wolverines fits. Not making a prediction at this time, but this may be a trap game for them.
