Jets confirmed what head coach Adam Gase told reporters at Tuesday’s press conference. WR Quincy Enunwa will miss the remainder of the 2019 season with a neck injury. Brian Costello was first to report the news.
Jets’ Quincy Enunwa Out For The Season
For Enunwa, 29, this is the second season-ending neck injury of his career. He previously missed the entire 2017 season with a bulging disc. The first injury was so severe, it required surgery. It is unclear whether another disc bulged or not. Quincy was signed to a four-year $36 million extension following the completion of last season.
I previously wrote an article on bulging discs/cervical radiculopathy, and how it related to Mets OF Brandon Nimmo. You can read that here. Though they carried the same diagnosis, careful consideration must be taken with Enunwa. For now, one can’t be certain how this latest injury relates to his career as a whole. Quincy’s injury was relatively severe, and so acute it required surgery. Lastly, football is obviously much more physical than baseball.
It’s highly possible the Jets traded for WR Demaryius Thomas knowing the relative severity of Enunwa’s injury. Though Thomas will add depth, this injury will surely hurt New York’s AFC team. Enunwa was expected to play a large role in Adam Gase’s offense. Let’s all hope Quincy can play again in 2020.
