Week two is in the books and the University of Michigan came out on top once again. Although it was not nearly as smooth as week one. The Army Black Knights gave Michigan the fight of their life, however just fell short of the massive upset in double OT.
Michigan Wolverines: Week Two Recap
Once again Michigan starts off by shooting themselves in the foot. On the first drive started off with another fumble from QB Shea Patterson. Michigan in the first 5 quarters of play this year already has more fumbles than all of last season. The Black Knights were able to score off the turnover. Showing a pattern by Michigan defense this year not being able to pick up the offenses slack. As they have been able to do in past years.
Michigans offensive drive to follow up the Black Knights score fell way short as the Black Knights forced the Wolverines into a 4th and 10 situation. Give credit to HC Jim Harbaugh for okaying the fake punt in this situation, because it worked and gave the Wolverines new life.
Army is a team where you must maximize your possessions, because with their run-heavy offense, and clock management you may see about half as many possessions as a normal game. With the new set of downs, the Wolverines were able to give the ball to star RB Zach Charbonnet for the equalizing score.
The Black Knights would add another score to take a 14-7 lead into halftime.
The Wolverines would tie the game on a touchdown in the 3rd quarter. The score would remain 14 all until OT.
In OT both teams would score a touchdown forcing double OT. To start double OT the Wolverines offense stalled as it did much of the day. They had to settle for a field goal. Leaving the door open for the Black Knights to end the game with a touch down drive if they can get one. After being forced into a passing scenario Army’s QB Kelvin Hopkins Jr. was sacked and fumbled the ball, Michigan recovered it and ended the ball game 24-21 Michigan.
Player of the game:
RB Zach Charbonnet, he carried the ball 33 times for 100 yards and 3 touchdowns for the Michigan Wolverines.
