Packers vs Vikings Week Two Preview

The Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings have both started the season 1-0. For the second year in a row, the Green Bay Packers vs the Minnesota Vikings will take place in week 2. Green Bay in coming home after stunning the Chicago Bears, in Chicago, 10-3. Although their offense was rusty and inconsistent, their defense was absolutely dominate. Minnesota, who played at home, dominated the Atlanta Falcons 28-12. All 12 points came in the fourth quarter during in garbage time. The Packers and Vikings are looking to start hot, as the fight for the division is full speed ahead.

How Are Their Seasons Going?

Key Matchups

Davante Adams vs Xavier Rhodes

A big factor in how the offense will run is how well can Aaron Rodgers get Davante Adams the ball. Last week, the Packers offense struggled and Adams finished with only 4 catches for 36 yards. Xavier Rhodes is a top corner who should be shadowing Adams the whole game. Rodgers needs to find a way to get him the ball consistently, in order to keep the offense moving.

Kenny Clark and Blake Martinez vs Dalvin Cook

Dalvin Cook was a big reason why the Vikings were able to blow out the Falcons last week. Finishing with 120 yards on 23 total touches, Cook was able to find big holes all night. Clark and Martinez play right in middle of the Packers defense and need to make sure they are crashing the rushing lanes to keep Cook from breaking big gains.

Jaire Alexander vs Stefon Diggs

Although Diggs finished with only 2 catches for 37 yards, that was more because Kirk Cousins only threw 10 total passes. Diggs is a great wide receiver and has exploited the Packers secondary in the past. Alexander has picked up where he left off last year, with 2 passed defensed and played stellar defense last week. It’ll be a matchup of two of the leagues top players at their positions.

Mason Crosby vs Dan Bailey

Last season in their week 2 matchup, Mason Crosby and Dan Carlson missed four total field goals. Mason Crosby’s only miss was a game winner with 31 seconds left in the game. Two of Carlson’s came in overtime and the game ended in a tie. Although Minnesota has a different kicker, the pressure will still be on for both of them.

Prediction

The Vikings defense is very good so Rodgers needs to be accurate and get the ball out fast. Going 2-0 vs your division rivals would be a great start to the season for the Packers. I will stick with my original prediction, the Packers will win 26-17.
