Fantasy Football: Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em Week Three

With the big injuries that happened this past weekend, fantasy owners scrambled to find replacements. After waivers, picking a fantasy starter starts to become hard due to the fact that you may see your team as deep. Here is a look at some players that you should think about starting and sitting.

Quarterbacks

Start ‘Em

Josh Allen vs Cincinnati Bengals

Josh Allen has become a fine fantasy start. Last week, he put up 22.2 fantasy points against the Giants. Now this week, he faces a Bengals team that allowed Jimmy Garopollo to put up a heck of a lot of points. Allen looks improved from last season and also continues to fantasy points up with his legs.

Jameis Winston vs New York Giants

Yes, I, among many other people, bought into the idea that Jameis could be a fantasy star this season. We all thought Arians could fix him. Right now, we are all grimacing watching him play. This week though, he is going up against a Giants defense that has given up almost 28 fantasy points per games to quarterbacks.

Sit ‘Em

Case Keenum vs Chicago Bears

Keenum has been solid for the Redskins in their past few games, but now he has to face a Chicago defense that is one of the best defenses in the NFL. The Bears have allowed only 14.3 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks. This game will most likely be low-scoring meaning that Keenum is a guy to avoid this week.

Derek Carr vs Minnesota

Derek Carr was solid against the Broncos week one, but was poor against the Chiefs the next week. Now, he goes up against a very solid defense in Minnesota that will also look to control the clock on offense with their running game. Carr is player to sit this week.

Runningbacks

Start ‘Em

David Montgomery @ Washington Redskins

Matt Nagy has finally listened to all of our prayers. Montgomery carried the ball 18 times in the win over the Broncos and also recorded a touchdown. He is very good at creating yards out of nothing and he goes up against a Redskins defense that allowed Ezekiel Elliot to run over them for 111 yards and a touchdown.

Sony Michel vs New York Jets

Michel got back on track last Sunday against the Miami Dolphins totaling 85 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. Michel now goes against the New York Jets who have a few players already banged up. Their offense won’t do much with Luke Falk at quarterback, so expect the Patriots to get up early and keep running.

Sit ‘Em

James White vs New York Jets

On the flip side of Michel, White is a player to avoid this week and probably often now. White doesn’t have much PPR upside anymore with the addition of Antonio Brown and the returns of Josh Gordon and Rex Burkhead. White only saw 30.8% of the offensive snaps last week.

Adrian Peterson vs Chicago Bears

Adrian Peterson is now the main runningback in Washington, but he faces a Chicago Bears front seven that allows very little yards and points. Thompson is the runningback to own in Washington with his receiving upside. Peterson has a very low floor against the Bears this week.

Wide Receivers

Start ‘Em

Larry Fitzgerald vs Carolina Panthers

Fitzgerald just keeps going to work for the Arizona Cardinals. It seems Kingsbury has revived Fitzgerald’s career after last season. He is top ten right now in the NFL in targets. Fitzgerald now goes up against a Panthers defense that allowed Chris Godwin to just shred them from the slot position last weekend.

D.J. Moore @ Arizona Cardinals

On the other side of the field, Moore is a good start as well. Moore is tied for the third most targets in the NFL this season. He will at least be valuable in a PPR format and could prove value in standard if he gets his first touchdown against a weak Arizona secondary that just allowed Lamar Jackson and the Ravens to dominate them.

Sit ‘Em

Tyrell Williams @ Minnesota Vikings

Williams has been very valuable in his first two games with the Raiders recording a touchdown in both of those games, and being the go to wide receiver for Derek Carr. This week, he comes up against Xavier Rhodes who is truly a top corner in the NFL. I would fade on him if you have better options on your bench.

John Ross III @ Buffalo Bills

Who would’ve though John Ross would be leading the NFL in receiving yards at any point of the season this year? Not me that’s for sure. Zac Taylor’s new offense has gotten the most out of him, but the Bills have a very solid secondary that could really shut Ross down. If you have other options on your bench, sit Ross in this one.

Tight Ends

Start ‘Em

Mark Andrews @ Kansas City Chiefs

Mark Andrews is everyone the fantasy community thought he would be. He exploded with his strong connection to Lamar Jackson. Andrews may split time with two other tight ends, but he still has the most targets of any tight end in the NFL. With how hot Lamar has been, Andrews has become a must start every week.

Vance McDonald

McDonald and new quarterback Mason Rudolph seem to have a strong connection. McDonald had seven catches last week and two touchdowns against the Seahawaks after disappointing in week one against the Patriots. With how bad Ben Roethlisberger was playing, Rudolph can’t be much worse not hurting his value all that much.

Sit ‘Em

Jared Cook @ Seattle Seahawks

With Drew Brees sidelined, Cook’s value already depletes. Teddy Bridgewater will most likely turn to Michael Thomas for all of his throws since he is the safest option out of the slot. The Saints may turn to their run game to carry them as well while Brees is out. On top of this, Cook was barely utilized in the loss against the Rams.

Tyler Eifert @ Buffalo Bills

Tyler Eifert had a touchdown last week, but he only finished with nine yards. He played less snaps than two other tight ends on his own team with a 25% snap count. Put all of this on top of the match up against the Bills, it is best to avoid Eifert. There are better options in the waivers. Eifert is touchdown dependent.

Defense/Special Teams

Start ‘Em

Dallas Cowboys vs Miami Dolphins

Any team that faces the Dolphins is a must start. They have given up an average of almost 25 points to fantasy defenses. The Dolphins allowed two defensive touchdowns last week as well.

Green Bay Packers vs Denver Broncos

The Packers have looked spectacular their first few weeks. They now play a Denver Broncos defense that has failed to put up a lot of points in their games.

Sit ‘Em

Baltimore Ravens @ Kansas City Chiefs

Baltimore have a solid defense, but any team that goes up against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs is a must sit. This game could end up being a shoot out which is bad for defenses.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers are now starting to find their groove after their thrashing of the Cincinnati Bengals. The Steelers defense has been disappointing up until this point, and even with the addition of Minkah Fitzpatrick, I don’t think they’re worth a start.
