Premier League Week 6 Matchup Preview

After some shocking matches last week, teams are either trying to balance themselves or falling over. For example, Norwich upset Man City last week, which has people wondering if Man City has what it takes this year to contend with Liverpool. Also, Man United, Chelsea, and Tottenham are coming off nice wins that they will need to build on. Here are this week’s matchups:

Southampton vs. Bournemouth

September 20th 3:00pm ET– Coming off a win away at Sheffield United, Southampton looks to build on the good run they are maintaining at the moment. The Saints have played well recently and have earned seven points from their last three games. Similarly, Bournemouth is coming off their best game of the season against Everton. Both teams have the exact same record and it should be an opportunity for both to get points.

Leicester vs. Tottenham

September 21st 7:30am ET– This matchup has implications for top four positions. Leicester has had a progressive season so far and got blocked from going further by Man United last week. However, they have an opportunity to get a home win this time. On the opposite side, Tottenham is coming off their largest win of the season against Crystal Palace. A win like that against Leicester can propel them into a title contender conversation.

Burnley vs. Norwich City

September 21st 10:00am ET– Burnley has struggled recently and desperately need this home win to get back on track. That is certainly not a guarantee against a team that just took down the Champions. Norwich is coming into this game after that historic win over Man City. However, playing away from home is not the same and they may have a rough time against a resilient Burnley side.

Everton vs. Sheffield United

September 21st 10:00am ET– Both teams suffered tough losses last week. Everton has been a mystery this season and they have not won the games they were “supposed” to. With their 3-1 defeat to Bournemouth last week, they will want a home win. Oppositely, Sheffield United lost to Southampton last week, but has the energy and impact to upset a team like Everton.

Manchester City vs. Watford

September 21st 10:00am ET– After losing to Norwich, Man City may have realized that their defense has weakened. They desperately need to fix the hole in the back line or just improve defensively. Every game is a necessity since they need to keep pressure on Liverpool. Whereas, Watford is looking for their first win of the season and they almost got it last week against Arsenal. If they were able to get points from this, Watford may just get all confidence back.

Newcastle vs. Brighton

September 21st 12:30pm ET– Having been a period of time without a win, both Newcastle and Brighton are struggling near the bottom of the table. At home, Newcastle may be able to get back on track and win. Brighton is coming off a tough draw to Burnley and will want to redeem themselves after giving up the late equalizer last week.

Crystal Palace vs. Wolverhampton

September 22nd 9:00am ET– Before being thrashed by Tottenham, Palace was on an astounding run. I feel they are a different Palace team than they were in years past. Being the home side, I feel they will have an easier time. Alternatively, Wolves are a team that no one understands this year. They have completely dropped off and have not managed a win yet this season. They want that form to turn around quick.

West Ham vs. Manchester United

September 22nd 9:00am ET– This match will be extremely close. West Ham looks like a new team this year. They have their best point total at this point since 2012 and really want to make a statement this year, especially against Man United. Comparatively, Man United is having a fine start to their season and are looking to get some consistency. Last week’s win at Leicester will inspire them.

Arsenal vs. Aston Villa

September 22nd 11:30am ET– The Gunners play the Villans in a matchup that could surprise a lot of people. Arsenal’s defense has been lackluster recently. For example, they gave up two goals to league-worst Watford last week. As a result, Aston Villa and Wesley (their striker) will want to pressure the Arsenal defense as much as they can. Arsenal is favored, but Aston Villa can pull off the upset.

Chelsea vs. Liverpool

September 22nd 11:30am ET– The Match of the Weekend. The Blues vs. The Reds. This is arguably Liverpool’s toughest test of the season so far. Chelsea are in the right form after a 5-2 win over Wolves and will need to hold their own against Liverpool. Their young players will need to take their chances and capitalize. On the other hand, Liverpool has won five straight and are perfect on the season. If they were to drop points now, this could open the door for Man City or anyone else to sneak back into the title race.
