Coming off a 3-1 against Everton, Bournemouth keep the train rolling with another 3-1 victory. Away from home, the strength of their defense looked evident and their defenders (such as Nathan Aké) even scored. They improved to a surprising sixth place with this victory. Conversely, Southampton, at home, should be doing better. They had plenty of chances, but only one found the back of the net.
Bournemouth 3-1 Southampton
Leicester 2-1 Tottenham
In an extremely thrilling matchup, Tottenham took the lead in the first half and looked like they were going to get more. Serge Aurier took a open shot from near the edge of the box and it hit the back of the net for Spurs. However, VAR ruled Heung-Min Son controversially offside in the build up. This turned the tie in the match as Leicester equalized and a fantastic strike from James Maddison gave Leicester the win. The Foxes went all the way up to third, while Spurs sank down to seventh.
Burnley 2-0 Norwich
Burnley striker Chris Wood scored a first-half brace to help oust Norwich. This win gave the Clarets their first win since Opening Day. It was a much needed win for a Burnley team struggling recently. On the other hand, Norwich was coming off their historic win over Man City, hoping to build on it. Away from home, they did not have a chance to as Burnley played really well and shut down their attack.
Sheffield United 2-0 Everton
As I have said previously, Everton looks shaky this season. Looking at this team week in, week out, there is no consistency. They seem to be missing that goal scoring aspect even though they have plenty of attack. On the opposite side, Sheffield United played fantastically. Being a newly promoted team, Sheffield United has fit in well so far this season. Away from home, this win over Everton will give them confidence.
Manchester City 8-0 Watford
Yes, this was the actual score. Man City wiped most of the doubts away they had after the Norwich loss. It was one sided as Bernardo Silva got a hat trick and they kept a clean sheet. With John Stones and Aymeric Laporte out, City only have one centerback and a midfielder in the centerback back position, they did not seem to have a problem this week. Conversely, Watford just got a new manager. Are they favorites to get relegated? I think so. They really need to start winning soon.
Newcastle United 0-0 Brighton
For a large portion of their home match, Newcastle was stuck defending as Brighton was extremely close to scoring. It was a tough day as everything was working for Brighton except finishing their chances. Brighton has not won since Opening Day. Similarly, Newcastle only has one win on the season. They looked pinned back against Brighton with few chances that did not result in anything.
Crystal Palace 1-1 Wolverhampton
Taking the lead early on in the second half, Palace looked certain winners. They held back ten man Wolves for all of the match, until disaster in the 95th minute. As a cross came into the box, a Palace defender slipped and Diogo Jota had a open goal to shoot for. This match would have sent Palace to seventh, but they are now in twelfth. Comparatively, Wolves have not won a match yet this season. They need to find that first win desperately or they will be stuck at the bottom with Watford.
West Ham 2-0 Manchester United
Honestly, I would not call this match a shocker. West Ham has played phenomenally this season. They are currently sitting in fifth and look like a team to beat this season. Alternatively, Man United have looked lackluster, especially in the striker position. They do not have one standout striker that is completely fit. I would not say it is a crisis, but the more games they lose, the more trouble they will be in.
Arsenal 3-2 Aston Villa
Everyone loves a late game comeback. As clear favorites in this home match, Arsenal was able to squeak out a tough win. Aston Villa was leading 2-1 with 10 minutes left in the match. However, thanks to a beautiful chip finish from Chambers and a free kick from Aubameyang, Arsenal took the win 3-2 in the closing stages. This sends Arsenal up to fourth, whereas keeps Aston Villa in eighteenth.
Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea
This Match of the Weekend was pretty entertaining. With Liverpool was ready to face the away crowd, Liverpool scored two first half goals. In the second half, Chelsea tried to fight back with a nice goal from Kante, but it just was not enough. Liverpool won one of their toughest matches so far and are perfect up to date with six wins. This loss will hurt Chelsea, but they are still a tough team to beat and just need to find wins.
