The Cleveland Cavaliers have made another move to add a young player. Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot will have a chance to compete for a roster spot during Cavs training camp. The 24 year-old forward was a first round pick in 2016. Since then, Cabarrot has averaged 5.7 PPG on three different teams. Drafted by the 76ers, he was traded to the Thunder last year, and soon after was traded to the Bulls.
Cavaliers Sign Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot to a Training Camp Deal
The swingman has a chance to make the team, but he’ll have to compete with the many other young forwards on the Cavs. One thing he has more of than most is experience. Although only 24 years old, Luwawu-Cabarrot has played at least fifty games in his first three years. It may not seem like much experience, but it is more than most current Cavalier players have. If he makes the team, Cabarrot won’t be expected to produce much in games, but obviously will be expected to challenge others in practices.
Cabarrot doesn’t do anything especially well, but he’s got good fundamentals and knows the game. The former first rounder will have a chance to prove he deserves a shot in training camp. If he is signed, the Cavs will have to decide whether he deserves a shot over players like Dean Wade and J.P. Macura. This signing is likely the last major transaction the Cavs will amass this offseason.
