We open our 3rd Annual JJ’s NBA Preview, slightly differently as I will go team by team. Starting from the bottom to the top, in 15th place in the Eastern Conference. The Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets had 2 ways to go this off-season. Resign Kemba Walker and compete for a playoff spot, or bottom out into #Tankapalooza. The Hornets chose the latter.

Michael Jordan selling part of his stake in the team. What does this mean for the Hornets?
Being a Michael Jordan fan, I hate to see his team go in this direction. Jordan has recently sold part of his stakes to two investors Gabe Plotkin and Daniel Sunheim. Will Michael Jordan just be the face of the franchise? Time will tell, but the Hornets have started their rebuild. Here is a list of their roster and contracts https://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/CHO.html
Guards
At the guard position after losing Kemba Walker, They decided to sign Terry Rozier to 3 year $56,700,000 contract. When Kyrie Irving went down to injury in Boston. Rozier came in and helped lead the Celtics to the Eastern Conference Finals 2 seasons ago. Irving returned and Rozier’s numbers regressed this season and still has not shot 40% from the field. At the shooting guard position Nicolas Batum continues his heist of the Hornets as he will receive $25,565,217 and you can bet your house that he will accept his player option of $27,130,434 next season. Malik Monk is entering his 3rd season and his stats went up, but Charlotte needs a lot more.
Forwards
Marvin Williams and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist are in the final year of their contracts and will most likely be elsewhere after the season. Miles Bridges “game” has been questioned many times by ESPN analyst Dan Dakich. Will have his chance to breakout this season. Rookie P.J Washington comes in looking to make an impact after averaging 15.2 PPG and 7.5 Boards at Kentucky last season.
Centers
Bismack Biyombo plays out the final year of his contract, Willy Hernangomez hopefully gets a lot of minutes in a chance to prove himself. Cody Zeller has played well as a pick n rolling 5 man and if he can stay healthy could be one of the leading members of the Hornets rebuild.
Final thoughts on the Hornets
Easy to tell I believe they will be competing, for the #1 pick in the 2020-2021 NBA Draft. They have $45+million coming off the books in Biyombo, Williams, and Kidd-Gilchrist and need to hit on their draft picks and picking the right guys in free agency going forward. I would be shocked if they get over 20 wins and I would take the under 23 win total, for the Hornets upcoming season.
