A game of luck for Liverpool. Liverpool has won seven of seven and truly had luck in this one. When Georginio Wijnaldum took a volley outside the box, the Sheffield United goalkeeper let it slip through his grasp as it trickled into the goal. Liverpool will enjoy this as they are sitting pretty at the top of the table. On the other hand, Sheffield United has lost 3 consecutive home matches and will be frustrated they let this game slip.
Liverpool 1-0 Sheffield United
Bournemouth 2-2 West Ham
This battle kept both teams in the top ten. Bournemouth kept up with West Ham’s firepower and look really good so far this season. It looks they have made a change that may keep them in the upper half of the league this season. Similarly, the Hammers are in the top five and looking fantastic. Every game they look better than last year. They will need to keep it up to stay where they are.
Aston Villa 2-2 Burnley
As the home team, Aston Villa will be disappointed they could not capitalize when they were leading 1-0 and 2-1. However, Burnley may be more disappointed because if they won, they could have been in the top ten of the league. This game was an opportunity for both teams to capitalize and gain some ground in the league. Both failed to do that and are stuck in the bottom half of the table.
Chelsea 2-0 Brighton
This win against Brighton was Chelsea’s first home win of the Premier League season. It is very surprising it took until now for them to get it. However, they were able to put in a shut out and keep Brighton from scoring. This moves them up to seventh in the League, whereas Brighton is stuck in the bottom four and needs wins.
Crystal Palace 2-0 Norwich
Palace avenges last week’s late draw to Wolves with a dominant win over Norwich. This game puts Palace in the top ten and it is a huge boost to Palace’s morale. On the other hand, Norwich just does not look like the same team away from home. At home, they were able to take down Man City, but away from home, they have had two consecutive 2-0 losses. They will want to fix that away form desperately.
Tottenham 2-1 Southampton
Putting Tottenham back where they want to be, this match was interesting. Leading 1-0, Tottenham went down to ten men early in the first half. Then, Southampton took advantage and tied the game. Before heading into halftime, Tottenham took the lead again and this time, with ten men, were able to hold the Saints back. Tottenham is back up to sixth, while Southampton is sitting in fourteenth.
Wolverhampton 2-0 Watford
This was the battle of the bottom two. It was an oppotunity for both teams to get their first win. Wolverhampton will happily enjoy this win as it gets them out of the bottom two and puts them in thirteenth. Consequently, this match was a huge aid to their season. Alternatively, Watford does not have a win yet. They look like a team that is still falling apart. They are prime relegation candidates and may just stay that way.
Manchester City 3-1 Everton
Away from home, it was going to be a tough task as Man City entered into Everton’s territory hoping for a win to keep up with Liverpool. Thanks to goals from Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling, Man City was able to seal the win over Everton and stay in second place. Oppositely, Everton still does not look right and are stuck in fifteenth which is astounding how low they are compared to their last few years in the Premier League.
Leicester 5-0 Newcastle
Week in, week out, Leicester are putting out statement results. Paired with last week’s win over Tottenham, 5-0 against Newcastle is a victory that will no doubt give them only more strength. Leicester is only seven points behind Liverpool and is sitting in third place. Conversely, Newcastle is now sitting in nineteenth right in front of Watford and is looking like another prime relegation candidate.
Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal
The Match of the Weekend. On a rainy Monday night in Manchester, the Red Devils hoped for a win to get them into the top ten and get them on a winning track. Similarly, Arsenal was poised to get their first win at Man United in over 13 years. Scott McTominay scored a stunner from outside the box in the late moments of the first half to put United up 1-0. Then, Arsenal tied the game thanks to a goal from Aubameyang. It was originally ruled offside, but VAR correctly ruled him onside. Man United have had their worst start to a Premier League season in club history. Arsenal is in fourth and is still looking on point this season with only one loss so far.
