Anaheim Ducks Prevail in Their Season Opener

Head Coach Dallas Eakins Makes His Season Debut!

Eakins replaces Randy Carlyle, who was fired as Ducks coach in February after a dreadful 2-15-4 stretch where Anaheim lost 12 straight games (0-8-4) from Dec. 18-Jan. 15. General manager Bob Murray served as interim coach for the rest of the season, leading the Ducks to a 14-11-1 record to finish the season.

October 3, 2019 – The Ducks won their first game of the season, also their home opener, 2-1 against the Arizona Coyotes.

1st Period

Derek Grant scored the first goal of the first period. Which was a rebound from Devin Shore‘s backhander towards the goal. This was an exciting goal for the Ducks faithful! Not only was it the first goal of the game, but it stemmed from a rebound from the other end of the ice! Grant intercepted the rebound then raced down the ice passing it to Shore, who shot at the net. But he was denied by Darcy Kuemper (Coyotes’ goalie)! However, following behind Shore was Grant who shot the rebound in for the goal!!

2nd Period

The Coyotes’ center, Derek Stepan ties the game. I wasn’t there, but I can only imagine that a “hush” went over the crowd! Unless they were a Coyotes’ fan. Much rejoicing came for the Ducks fans as Cam Fowler scores with just 32 seconds left to the period!

3rd Period

Fowler’s goal would end up being the winning goal! All of Ducks nation slept well that night knowing that there was a W in their team’s win/loss column.
