The Washington Wizards beat the Knicks Friday night in the Big Apple 115-99. The Wizards avenged a loss to the Knicks last week in D.C 104-99. The Wizards are now 2-1 with one game remaining before the regular season begins. Through three games there has been a lot to like.
Beal shines in New York
After trailing 30-24 after the first quarter the Wizards erupted for 41 in the second. Beal led the way with 21 points in just 17 minutes.
This was a bounce-back game for Beal as in the first game against the Knicks he was held to just 5 points on 2 of 10 shooting. Beal will once again have to shoulder the scoring load to begin the season. Isaiah Thomas will be out 6-8 weeks following successful surgery to repair a rupture of the radial collateral ligament in his left thumb.
Three-point shooting on display
Last night the Wizards hit 19 threes a game after hitting 22 in a 137-98 win over the Guangzhou Long-Lions on Wednesday. Justin Anderson led the charge last going 5-11 from three-point land.
Young players providing good scoring
As part of the Anthony Davis trade, the Wizards were able to come away with several good young players. These players include Moe Wagner, Isaac Bonga, and Jemerrio Jones. Wagner got the start last night and turned in 18 points and four rebounds. Bonga produced four points in 19 minutes. Thomas Bryant turned in his second double-double of the preseason with 10 points and 10 rebounds last night as he continues his development. Finally, Admiral Schoefield turned in six points and played a team-high 29 minutes off the bench.
One game before the season opener
As the Wizards beat the Knicks last night there are now have just one game left before the season opener. The Wizards’ next game comes against three-point specialist Ben Simmons and the Philadelphia 76ers next Friday night in Philadelphia. Last night was encouraging from the fact that the Knicks played Julius Randle, Marcus Morris and rookie RJ Barrett 29 or more minutes last night. After a fast start, the Wizards held the Knicks to just 39% shooting. The Wizards open the season October 23rd in Dallas against Luka Doncic and the Mavericks.
