Premier League Week 9 Matchup Preview

Coming back from international break, many teams are looking for a way to get wins. Many teams suffered shock losses two weeks ago and they will want to recover themselves. As a result, this week is important for each club as they try to set their team’s tone for the rest of the season. Here is this week’s matchups:

Everton vs. West Ham

October 19th 7:30am ET– Everton is currently in the relegation zone. Many fans could not have known that they would be stuck there. Everton already has five losses this season and they will need something to wake them up. If they keep losing, it could be one of the most surprising relegations in League history. On the other hand, West Ham has been soaring and are in eighth in the Premier League. They have played well so far and will need to keep winning to stay in the top ten.

Bournemouth vs. Norwich

October 19th 10:00am ET– Currently, Bournemouth is in 10th place, ready to breakthrough into the top ten. This win could get them there. At home, they only have one win so far this season. Their home record desperately needs to improve. However, Norwich has not earned a point from a game since September 14. They are in nineteenth place and have been struggling to find points recently. A win away from home could get them back on track.

Aston Villa vs. Brighton

October 19th 10:00am ET– The last time Aston Villa played, they slaughtered Norwich 5-1. They have shown they have the scoring power and readiness to dominate teams, but they just need consistency in front of goal. Similarly, Brighton thrashed Tottenham 3-0 and look to continue building off that historic win. Aston Villa and Brighton are fourteenth and fifteenth respectively and both need points.

Chelsea vs. Newcastle

October 19th 10:00am ET– Chelsea has had two straight wins in the Premier League and sit in fifth place. They are reaching for a top four spot, but they could easily slip up against Newcastle. Due to Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Manchester United in Week 8, Newcastle looks threatening. Hoping to win consistently, a win away from home against Chelsea would be astonishing.

Leicester vs. Burnley

October 19th 10:00am ET– After a heartbreaking loss to Liverpool in Week 8, Leicester want revenge to keep the pressure on Liverpool. They look pretty stable this season and just need to keep winning. Alternatively, Burnley looks revitalized after early season struggles and have been winning many games. Sitting in seventh place, they will need crucial wins to keep them in the same spot they are in and in the top ten.

Tottenham vs. Watford

October 19th 10:00am ET– Behind the likes of Burnley, West Ham, and Crystal Palace, Tottenham is not used to being in ninth position. However, they are. They need something to get them back on track necessarily. Comparatively, Watford is in twentieth and just have not been able to dig themselves out of it. They still do not have their first win and need to win NOW.

Wolverhampton vs. Southampton

October 19th 10:00am ET–After not being able to win a game, Wolves were able to win two straight and one of those was against Manchester City. It is a huge club accomplishment to beat a team like that, but it shows they are ready this season to climb to much more. Conversely, Southampton has had three straight losses. They are on the edge of the relegation zone and need wins to move forward.

Crystal Palace vs. Manchester City

October 19th 12:30am ET– Palace is coming off two straight victories and are sitting in sixth place. They look ready this season to make a honest run at the top four. If they keep winning like they have and if they put on a show against Man City, Palace will prove they have what it takes. Alternatively, Man City have been struggling. They are in second place, but they are eight points behind Liverpool. Every game is a must win to catch up to Liverpool.

Manchester United vs. Liverpool

October 20th 11:30am ET– This is the Match of the Weekend. Man United has not won a game for over a month. They look to be crashing down and are currently in twelfth place, which is unusual for a team of this caliber. On the other hand, Liverpool are streaking away with the Premier League title so far. Every game is needed to strengthen their distance over their title challengers. If Liverpool were to begin losing games now, it would certainly give others an opportunity to reach them.

Sheffield United vs. Arsenal

October 21st 3:00pm ET– In the last game of the Week, thirteenth place Sheffield United looks to possibly enter the top ten this week. If they were to get a win against third place Arsenal, Sheffield United would prove they have made the most progress out of the promoted teams this season. Similarly, Arsenal is looking for a chance to get in second place and be a true challenger to Liverpool. Games like this would be a must win for a title contender.
