Carolina Panthers vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers Review

Well Week 6 of the NFL was off to an early start. The
Carolina Panthers took on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in London this week. These
two teams faced off in the second overseas game of the year, held at Tottenham
Hotspur Stadium. The Panthers dominated most of the game, winning 37-26. Let’s take
a closer look at this game.

Jameis, Jameis,
Jameis

Steve Flynn-USA TODAY Sports

The most obvious story in this game was the up and down play of Tampa’s quarterback, Jameis Winston. Although Winston threw for 400 yards on the dot, he only threw one touchdown and was intercepted five times. He accounted for 6 of the 7 turnovers committed by the Bucs. Winston was super inconsistent all game. There were times where he threw the ball really well, and then there were times where he threw the ball straight to the Panthers. Winston was finding holes in the zone, and he was taking advantage of mismatches in the man coverage. He even looked like he was going to start a comeback at the beginning of the 4th Quarter, but he was foiled and the game was effectively over when he threw an interception right before the two minute warning.

Carolina’s defense
remains tough

Charlotte Observer

Carolina’s defense remains strong once again. They wavered a little bit in the fourth quarter, but in the end their pass defense remained strong and closed out the game. What was most impressive to me, was not the five interceptions, but rather it was the run defense of Carolina. Tampa didn’t even really try to get their run game going. They only ran for 42 rushing yards in total, while their number one running back only ran for 28 yards on 8 rushes. As far as the pass rush goes, it was relentless and Winston was sacked seven times. He was hurried and hit all game long, and that can definitely attribute to the high number of interceptions thrown.

Kyle Allen is still
undefeated

USATSI

The backup kid is still going strong. Kyle Allen now boasts a 4-0 record since he replaced the injured Cam Newton and he is 5-0 in his career in total. Allen had another strong game Sunday, as he makes it through another game without an interception and for once he went through a game without giving up a fumble. He threw for 227 yards, two touchdowns, and had a completion percentage of 63%. Allen looked good this game! He was consistent and he was making good throws. It was a good thing that he was able to pass the ball because the run game did struggle today as McCaffrey was only able to rush for 31 yards on 22 carries. However, McCaffrey still produced in the offense by contributing two touchdowns.

Coming up for both teams are bye weeks going into Week 7. The Panthers will head out to the West Coast to take Jimmy Garoppolo’s red hot 49’ers on the 27th of October. This should be one of the more challenging games for the Panthers, considering the 49’ers have not lost this season. They are the best team in the NFC and will be a tough game. As for the Bucs, they will head to Tennessee to take on the Titans also on the 27th. The Titans, along with the Bucs have been struggling and both teams will be looking to get back on track. The Titans will be looking to bounce back from a goose egg against the Broncos, while the Bucs will be looking to have a better offensive performance.
