Start or Sit? Week 7: Fantasy Football

The hardest part of fantasy football is deciding whether to start or sit a player, especially during bye weeks. During this week, some big name players will not play due to bye week. The teams on bye are: Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers, and Pittsburgh Steelers. Knowing who to start and sit can be crucial to a big win, or a close loss.

Quarterback

Start

Kyler Murray vs New York Giants

Kyler Murray continues to perform at a high fantasy level. He is currently the seventh best quarterback in fantasy averaging over 20 points per game. This week he is playing the New York Giants who have been very poor against the pass. He is a must start this week.

Gardner Minshew vs Cincinnati Bengals

Minshew has been awesome this season. He has achieved at least 16 fantasy points per game (outside of last week against the Saints). Minshew now plays a depleted Bengals’ secondary that is without their two starting cornerbacks. He should light up this weak secondary.

Sit

Sam Darnold vs New England Patriots

Any quarterback that faces the Patriots defense is a must sit. This Patriots defense is killing everyone. Yes, Darnold had a field day against an awful Philadelphia Eagles secondary, but that doesn’t mean he will do the same against the Patriots. Stash Darnold though, because after this week, his schedule becomes smooth sailing.

Philip Rivers vs Tennessee Titans

Rivers has been fairly sub par these past few weeks combining for under 19 fantasy points in two games. He doesn’t have much room for improvement either as he comes up against a very solid Titan defense. This game could be another low-scoring game.

Runningback

Start

Matt Breida/Tevin Coleman vs Washington Redskins

Both of these guys are fantasy relevant. Breida has been spectacular for the 49ers rushing attack and Tevin Coleman is the goalline back. They both have the change to provide great value against this weak rush defense that have allowed the fifth most points to fantasy runningbacks.

Josh Jacobs vs Green Bay Packers

The Oakland Raiders rushing attack has been surprisingly very strong. They absolutely ran over the stout Chicago Bears front seven and now look to do the same to Green Bay’s. Green Bay’s weak point on defense has been their rush defense, so as long as game script allows it, Jacobs should eat.

Sit

David Montgomery vs New Orleans Saints

This game could be a very low-scoring game with how the Saints have been playing with Teddy Bridgewater. The Saints have had a very strong rushing defense allowing less than 80 yards per game to runningbacks. The only way Montgomery can provide value is if he grabs a touchdown. He isn’t a safe play this week.

Adrian Peterson vs San Francisco 49ers

With Bill Callahan taking over, his plan is to just run the ball from the looks of it. He wants to give Peterson a lot of carries. The problem with this is that the 49ers have a solid rush defense allowing the lowest average fantasy points to runningbacks.

Wide Receivers

Start

Brandin Cooks/Robert Woods/Cooper Kupp vs Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons defense in general is horrendous. They have been getting exposed by every team they face. This could be a high scoring game with every wide receiver getting their dues. After last weeks awful performance, this team is looking to get back on track.

Calvin Ridley vs Los Angeles Rams

On the flip side of this game, Calvin Ridley should also get some great looks. With Julio Jones most likely matched with newly acquired Jalen Ramsey, Ridley could get some great looks against this defense that lost their other starting corner Aqib Talib to IR.

Sit

Robby Anderson vs New England Patriots

This goes with the same thing of Sam Darnold. Yes, he went off last week torching the Dallas Cowboys, but the Patriots are much better than the Cowboys. Also, Robby will most likely be matched up with top cornerback Stephon Gilmore. If anyone is going to catch a lot of passes in this game, it is Jamison Crowder.

Allen Robinson vs New Orleans Saints

Allen Robinson has been very solid this season. With Mitch Trubisky returning from his injury, you’d think his value would increase? Most likely not. He will be lining up against Marshon Lattimore who has allowed the last three WR1s he’s faced to 91 total yards.

Tight End

Start

Hunter Henry vs Tennessee Titans

Hunter Henry is back! He had a monster game in his return from his injury and is looking to build off of that. It also helps that the Titans have given up the third most points per touch to tight ends in fantasy this season.

Dawson Knox vs Miami Dolphins

With the tight end position thin this season, it’s hard to pick tight ends to start every week. Dawson Knox has seemed to develop a solid connection with quarterback Josh Allen. He should be able to have a solid game against the weak Miami Dolphins.

Sit

Jared Cook vs Chicago Bears

After a solid fantasy showing last week grabbing a touchdown, Cook should still be benched. The Bears defense is very solid and Cook shouldn’t have many options. Like I said with Montgomery, this could be a low-scoring, low-offense game making him not very relevant.

Delanie Walker vs Los Angeles Chargers

Walker has struggled this season after starting out hot. The Titans also decided to make a quarterback change this week naming Ryan Tannehill the starter over Marcus Mariota. He has a tough contest this week as well when he faces a Chargers defense that has allowed a mere 3.5 catches per game to tight ends.
