Gunner Olszewski has been the Patriots punt returner this season and he has played some offensive snaps this season. He has a similar playing style as Julian Edelman.
Gunner Olszewski Punt Returns
Julian Edelman used to be the punt returner until about two years ago when Cordarrelle Patterson and then Gunner took the job. This year Gunner Olszewski has averaged 8.6 yards per carrying on each punt return. His longest punt return this season was twenty yards, but he has had no fumbles this season. He has been a reliable and smart punt returner for the Patriots this season.

Offense
Gunner has not been a significant part of the offense yet. This season he has only had two receptions for 34 yards and no touchdowns. With many of the top receivers hurt this week, it could allow him the opportunity to shine on offense. Edelman is near the end of his fantastic career as a Patriot. This forces New England to look for good, young, and hard-working players to offer extensions too. Belichick said, “Whether that’s return kicks, cover kicks, block, catch – he works really hard,” Bill Belichick said Saturday. “Just gives his best all of the time, so you can’t ask for anything more than that. He keeps getting better.” These comments show that Gunner already knows how to fit into the Patriots way, which could help New England have another Edelman like a receiver.
Gunner Olszewski Conclusion
The game against the Giants was just a start to the great career Gunner is going to have. If he gets off to a good start against the Jets, he could earn his starting role as a receiver soon. Also, just as Bill Belichick always says, “Do your job.”
