The Phoenix Suns last season went without a starting level point guard and it showed. The Suns finished dead last in the West and were an alarming 14 games behind the next team. FOURTEEN GAMES behind just one team. That has to be a record.
Phoenix Suns 2019-20 NBA Season Preview

Suns Last Season
Ricky Rubio Comes to Town
Ricky Rubio the international star, was drafted above Steph Curry. In the NBA hasn’t lived up to that hype, but he did just lead Spain to a FIBA Championship this summer. He is a reliable starting point guard and something the Suns desperately needed. He will make life easier on his star running mate of the future Devin Booker and the rest of the team.
Dynamic Duo Booker & Ayton
Is this duo good enough to eventually make the playoffs? Booker is now on a max deal and Ayton on his rookie contract, so there’s time to make it work. Hard to believe Devin Booker is only 22. Last year averaged 26.6 PPG and 6.8 assists. DeAndre Ayton last seasons #1 pick. Lived up to the billing as he averaged a double double. 16.3 PPG and 10.3 Rebounds. The numbers are there, just need to find the pieces around them.
Where’s The Help?
All Dwight Howard jokes aside, Kelly Oubre after the trade to the Suns played very well. Dario Saric hopefully can find a home here and quit getting bounced around. A pick N pop connection with Rubio could work well, as well as spacing the floor for Booker. Defensively they will have to be able to figure something out. There’s not a rim protector on this roster. Final Thoughts On The Suns
I love the Ricky Rubio signing for the Suns. I believe it starts them going in the right direction and now they just have to add pieces around Booker & Ayton. The Suns will jump 2 spots in the West, but will be nowhere near the playoffs. All my NBA thoughts will be on @Justis15 all season.
