The first month of the 2019-20 season didn’t go as planned for the Chicago Blackhawks. With all the offseason moves they made, we thought they’d start out hot for the first month. But that wasn’t the case.
Since it’s November 1st, I thought it’d be a good time to recap the month of October and take a look ahead to the month of November for the Chicago Blackhawks.
October Recap
The first game of the season for the Chicago Blackhawks began in Prague, Czech Republic, to face off against the Philadelphia Flyers. They ended up losing that game 4-3.
After almost a week off, they flew back home to Chicago to start a 7 game homestand. The first game was against Brett Burns and the San Jose Sharks. The Blackhawks ended up losing that game 5-4. That is now 2 straight losses to start the season.
Just two days after losing to the San Jose Sharks, the Chicago Blackhawks played their first divisional game of the season against the Winnipeg Jets. Blackhawks fans also thought this was going to be an easy win for the Blackhawks since the Jets were also struggling to start the season. But yet again they found a way to lose 3-2 in overtime.
It wasn’t really a time to “panic” after 3 straight losses to start the season, but it was really frustrating to watch as a Blackhawks fan. It didn’t get easier, as they faced off against the hottest team in the league, Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers. Very surprisingly, The Blackhawks ended up having their best game of the season and ended up defeating the Oilers and getting their first win of the season.
They had all the momentum as they faced off against the Colombus Blue Jacket. They played outstanding and captured their 2nd straight win of the season as they beat the Blue Jackets in overtime.
After 2 straight wins on home ice, The Blackhawks just fell apart. Coming up with 3 straight losses to end the 7 game homestand. Loosing to the Washington Capitals, Vegas Golden Knights, and the Philadelphia Flyers.
They’d finish the month of October against the Carolina Hurricanes, LA Kings and the Nashville Predators. Securing only 1 win, that coming against a struggling LA Kings team.
Closing out October
So they’d finish the first month of the season with a record of 3-6-2 (8 points) 6th place in the Central Divison. Very rough start for the Blackhawks, and definitely not what Blackhawks fans were expecting.
To sum up the month of October I’d use the words inconsistent, disappointing and very frustrating.
Outstanding Players for the Month of October
Looking ahead to the month of November
Blackhawks fans are hoping the can start this month with a winning streak. First opponent of the month is the LA Kings, Which they faceoff against each other tomorrow, November 2nd, for the second time this season. The Blackhawks face some very tough opponents, so it’s important that they get off to a good start so they don’t fall back so far in the division.
Must Watch Games in November
- Vancouver Canucks (November 7th)
- Toronto Maple Leafs (November 10th)
- Buffalo Sabres (November 17th)
- Carolina Hurricanes (November 19th)
- Tampa Bay Lightning (November 21st)
