Seahawks Claim Josh Gordon: Fantasy Football

Josh Gordon was claimed by the Seattle Seahawks initially reported by Ian Rapoport. This comes one day after being released from the Injured Reserve by the New England Patriots.

27 teams passed on the opportunity to add Josh Gordon since Seattle was Number 28 in the waiver order. Gordon appeared in 17 games over the past two season for the New England Patriots catching 60 passes for 1,007 yards and four touchdowns.

This week, Pete Carroll says Gordon will not play according to Joe Fann of NBC Sports Northwest. Gordon will make his debut versus the San Francisco 49ers the following week.

Fantasy Football Impact

How does the addition of Gordon affect Josh Gordon’s fantasy football value? Well, this addition gives much needed help to Russell Wilson. Wilson already has Tyler Lockett and rookie DK Metcalf, but the addition of Gordon adds a veteran presence at the wide receiver core and a true number one wide receiver.

On the contrary, the addition hurts DK Metcalf the most. Since Lockett is the slot wide receiver, his value doesn’t get lowered much if at all. Metcalf will now be competing for reps with Gordon which will lower his value greatly.

Josh Gordon can be a great threat now for quarterback Russell Wilson. This would put Josh Gordon into a weekly starter once again. I would consider him a WR2 with the upside of a WR1 some weeks. He will get volume as soon as he gets accustomed to the offense. He may be a boom or bust play, much like DK is now, but I see him being safer than DK is right now. It also doesn’t hurt that he has a strong connection with quarterback Russell Wilson.
