Michigan Wolverines: Week 10 Recap

This past week the number 14 ranked Michigan Wolverines took on the unranked Maryland Terrapins. Vegas has this matchup as quite the landslide giving Michigan over 20 points.

First Half:

Michigan wide receiver Giles Jackson strolls into the end zone after returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown against Maryland. Tommy Gilligan, USA TODAY Sports

On the opening kick off Wolverine freshman, WR Giles Jackson returns ran it back for a touchdown. Literally not a better way a team can start a game, 11 seconds in and they are up by seven.

After that start for the Wolverines, their defense manages to hold the Terrapins offense in check and forced a punt. After they got the ball back they ran down the field to end the drive with a touchdown. RB Zach Charbonnet takes the direct snap in the wildcat formation and ran it in for the score.

Later in the first quarter, CB Josh Metellus intercepts the Terrapins pass for a red-zone turnover, which allowed the Wolverines to keep the pressure on Maryland by not letting them make it a one-score game.

Besides a hot start by the Michigan Wolverines, Maryland has outplayed them for the most part in the first half. Maryland has more yards, double the first downs, and almost triple the time of possession. They just could not get into the end zone and get points off of their possessions. two of their long drives ended with nothing after going the length of the field, one with a missed field goal and the other by the interception.

With under four minutes to go in the first half Michigan stayed aggressive by calling a fake punt on 4th and 1 to keep the drive alive. They went on to score, on a Charbonnet touchdown. His 2nd of the day. Giving Michigan the lead by 21.

Second Half:

After both teams got off to a slow start in the second half. Michigan was finally able to move downfield and score in a touchdown pass from Shea Patterson to TE Nick Eubanks. After the score and being up by 28 the Wolverines send in their second sting RB’s, and start running the clock down.

Showing their depth at the RB position Hassan Haskins ran it in for 14 yard touchdown as well. Michigan is now up 35 on Maryland and seems to take a playoff because on the ensuring kickoff Maryland is able to return that for a touchdown and prevent the shutout from happening.

After the score, Michigan tightens up again and does not allow any more points in this game. While only adding a field goal of their own they will take home the victory by a score of 38-7
