Welcome back to the College football playoff rankings! The committee got it right in week one of the rankings. They also played it safe as all four teams had to play each other in the regular season. After LSU beat Alabama and Penn State dropped one to Minnesota, let’s see how the rankings should play out in week two.

10 through 7
10. Baylor- The Bears control their fate, win out, which starts this week against Oklahoma and dare the committee to keep out an undefeated Power 5 conference champion.
9. Penn St.- They lost to an undefeated team on the road and still have the Buckeyes on the schedule, they aren’t dead yet.
8. Minnesota- The Gophers handled business and took down Penn State. They have a tricky game at Iowa this week. Some people will want them higher, and I get it, but one win doesn’t make a schedule. A jump from 17 to 8 would be the largest ever in the committee’s history, so I don’t see anything higher than this right now.
7. Utah- Everyone’s preseason darlings just keep chugging along, but I think of all the teams in my top 10 they need the most help. They need to win a one-loss matchup in the PAC 12 title game versus Oregon and get some help to get in.
Next Two Out:
6. Oregon- Wonder if the Ducks scheduled a directional state school in week one instead of Auburn? They would probably be in right now. I have faith in this committee that they will not punish the Ducks for scheduling out of the conference! However, they still need Utah to hold up their end and win the PAC 12 championship.
5. Alabama- This is the most interesting ranking of all the teams this week. Their schedule has been soft up to this point, and they just lost as a touchdown favorite at home! Judging by last week’s rankings, this committee values the “eye test,” and if you watched that game, you can’t say Alabama isn’t one of the four best teams in the country. They need to be impressive and unchallenged the rest of the way and let the chips fall where they may.
Top 4:
4. Clemson- The Tigers slip back into the Top Four. Let’s face it. They were never going to be held out of the Top Four. The ACC is pathetic, but they have rolled through except for North Carolina, they have a “big game” versus Wake Forest this week. Win out, and they are in.
3. Georgia- As I said, I think this committee is an “eye test” group, and The Dawgs schedule and resume are just better than Clemson. Win the SEC championship game, and they are in, lose, and they are out.
2. Ohio State- The Buckeyes drop is only because they are a prisoner of the moment. They have absolutely destroyed any and all comers at this point. Rutgers is going to feel the wrath this week. Chase Young being suspended could make that Penn State game a little interesting, but with the way things are falling, I could see a scenario that they get in even with a loss.
1. LSU- The Tigers have the most impressive resume with that win over Alabama on Saturday. They are in the driver seat to represent the best conference in their championship game, and they are lead by a Heisman trophy candidate at QB. However, Coach O has a history of letting things slip away, be very careful and on upset alert this week Bayou Bengals.
Wheres Oklahoma?!
What no Oklahoma?! Yea, no, Oklahoma! As I said, I believe this committee puts a lot of stock into seeing games, and another nail biter in a weak conference didn’t help their case. They have Baylor this week, earn your way back in.
