All the major sports have video reviews and for some reason, the most-watched sport all around the world has been in the dark ages till the 2018 World Cup. In April last year, the Premier League clubs voted against the VAR system, to be used in the 2018/19 season. During a Premier League match last season Southampton vs. Watford, Southampton had a goal disallowed which the match official ruled as offside. Former Southampton player Charlie Austin showed his frustrations after the game and labeled the decision as a joke.

“Change is always hard” Don’t you think?

In My Opinion :

“Experience Counts” Agree or Disagree?

In big games, we expect high emotions from the fans, teams facing each other, and match officials. And we sure don’t expect the game to be decided by a “system nor a match official making a wrong call”

“Experience Counts”

It’s as though the systems that are supposed to be helping out match officials, to make near-accurate decisions are failing. The system used in Rugby, “TMO”(Television Match Official) has also been under fire, with fans and players expressing their frustration by near five minutes wait as the refs scrutinize closest of knock-on calls or try and decipher if the ball was correctly grounded from under a mass of 20-stone bodies. The technology can only go so far and currently, the main similarity between the TMO and VAR is how they’ve split their respective fan bases.

The VAR

As the game progresses, assistant referees away from the stadium watch instant replays of incidents. Over wireless headsets, they communicate with the referee, advising them on any game-changing incident.

Operating under the philosophy of “minimal interference, maximum benefit”

How does it work :

VAR stands for a video assistant referee. A room which is essentially a bank of monitors offering different camera angles.

Managers’ Takes

Burnley

Sean Dyche has re-iterated his support for VAR and believes the system will soon become widely accepted.

‘I was happy with my words afterwards but it was such a soft one and we saw over the weekend other soft ones that weren’t given,’ Dyche said at his weekly press conference ahead of Saturday’s visit of Chelsea.

Frank Lampard has added his voice to the gathering consensus that Premier League referees should consult the pitchside monitors during VAR decision reviews.

VAR has now been used in 100 Premier League matches this season with as many as 26 decisions overturned, including Brighton’s controversial penalty award and Arsenal having a late winner ruled out against Crystal Palace . https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/crystal-palace-fc

The Premier League are planning to bring in an enhanced VAR system which makes use of ‘limb-tracking technology’ to dramatically increase the accuracy and speed with which referees make offside decisions.

Let’s leave it at that, time will tell or you can share your thoughts around all this?
