Devils Waive Schneider, Recall Domingue

Earlier Monday, the New Jersey Devils announced that they have put veteran goalie, Cory Schneider on waivers for the purpose of sending him to AHL Binghamton. The Devils have also recalled recently acquired goalie, Louis Domingue up. Despite ending off last season in a good way, Schneider has been 0-4-1 with a 4.59 GAA and a .852 Sv%. Last season, he wen 6-13-4 with a 3.06 GAA and a .903 Sv%.

Schneider has been the Devils’ starting net minder since the 2014-15 season, where he was ninth in GAA with a 2.26, and fourth in games played by a goalie with 69. However, injuries have costed Schneider his career. He’s been IR five times. One of the major things that has happened to him was undergoing hip surgery. He was originally drafted by the Vancouver Canucks back in 2004. He was drafted 26th overall. Cory won the William M. Jennings Trophy, given to the goalie with the lowest GAA in a minimum 25 games played in the 2010-11 campaign. He was traded to the Devils in 2013 for New Jersey’s first round pick, which would become Bo Horvat.

Recalling Louis Domingue

In addition to the Devils sending Schneider down, they have called up goaltender, Louis Domingue. Domingue has yet to play an NHL game this season. He’s spent all his time in AHL Syracuse and Binghamton. In the 122 NHL games he has played with the Arizona Coyotes and Tampa Bay Lightning, he has went 55-19-8, with a 2.96 GAA and a .907 Sv%. He went 21-5-0 with a 2.88 GAA and a .908 Sv% with Tampa. Louis was traded to the Devils on November 2nd for a conditional 7th round pick.

I have a feeling we will see Cory in a Devils uniform again this season. Hopefully this move will help boost his confidence in the AHL with a few wins.
