Chiefs-Chargers Monday Night Football Recap

0

Last night the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 24-17. Chiefs improved to  7-4; the Chargers fell to 4-7.

Below Average Quarterback Play

Chargers quarterback Phillip Rivers was 28-52 for 352 yards. He had just one passing touchdown and four interceptions. On the season Rivers has 15 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. That will not get the job done.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes did not have one of his best games either. Mahomes was 19-32 for 182 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Runningback Committee

Chargers running back Melvin Gordon looked good and showed burst. He had 14 carries for 69 yards. He also contributed three receptions for 21 yards. Chargers backup running back Austin Ekeler had a great game. Ekeler ran for 24 yards on five carries. He also had eight receptions for 108 yards.

Receiver play

Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen had a good game scoring their only passing touchdown of the game. Allen contributed eight receptions for 71 yards. Hunter Henry also had an efficient game catching six of nine targets for 69 yards. He has become a reliable asset to Philip Rivers over these past few weeks since he’s come back.

Game Takeaways

  • In the end Phillip Rivers and the Chargers had their opportunities to win but they just could not take care of the football. You won’t be very successful throwing four interceptions in a game.
  • Chiefs defense looked very good last night. They did not allow Rivers and the Chargers offense to get comfortable.
