OTH Weekly NBA Power Rankings

Each week we will be releasing our weekly NBA power rankings. We know there are thousands (mostly wrong) power rankings every week that are released.

Our rankings are different in that they will be 100 percent correct or at least in the ballpark. I don’t mean an MLB ballpark either more like a single A park in Des Moines Idaho.

We will factor in current play, level of opponent for the prior week and of course writer bias ( just kidding… maybe).

Overtime Heroics NBA Power Rankings

Power Rankings Top Tier teams

  1. Boston Celtics 11-2

Despite their 10 game winning streak coming to an end, the Celtics continue to roll along tied for the best record in the NBA. A more pressing concern is the injury to Smart ankle. Smart told ESPN

” It just irritated the exact same ankle I was coming back from in the same spot,” Smart said. “But everything’s fine. I should be fine to play the rest of the trip.”
With the injury to Hayward, the Celtics can’t afford any more games lost by there main guys.

2. Los Angles Lakers 11-2

The Laker’s seven-game winning streak was snapped by the Raptors but they are starting to get healthy. Rondo played his first game of the year and even though Bradley is out for some time getting Rondo back lessens the blow.

3. Houston Rockets 11-3

After a slow start to the season, the Rockets have blasted off with an 8 game winning streak. The defense that was a joke to begin the year has been number one for the last couple of weeks. Oh yeah, Harden is averaging almost 40 a game.

4. Milwaukee Bucks 10-3

Despite the injury to Kris Middleton the Bucks have reeled off 4 straight games. Giannis has picked up right where he left off from his MVP season.

Closing in on Elite

5. Miami Heat 9-3

The Heat have continued there hot start. They are number one in FG percentage, number one in steals per game and number five in assist per game

6. Denver Nuggets 9-3

Weird stat of the day the Nuggets are number 1 in second-round pick scoring at over 59 points a game. A huge week ahead for the Nuggets facing the Rockets, Celtics, and Suns.

7. Toronto Raptors 9-4

Lowry and Ibaka out no problem Siakam have shouldered the load and become the main guy in Toronto. Raptors are coming off a franchise-record 40 assist vs Charlotte.

8. Utah Jazz 8-5

The Jazz continues to try and find there footing this year but they have won four out of six games.

9. LA Clippers 8-5

Paul George made his return but Leonard has missed a few games will we see the dynamic duo this week on the floor together?

10. Philadephia 76ers 8-5

Losses to the Magic and Thunder have dropped the 76ers in the rankings the good news is the starting five is finally intact.

Heading in the right direction

11. Phoenix Suns 7-5

The Suns continue to play like a team that can make the playoffs. Aaron Baynes has made 22 of 47 3-pointers this year.

12. Dallas Mavericks 8-5

Luka Doncic has turned into a triple-double machine the last two weeks. Also, the Mavericks have the second-best offensive efficiency. Porzingis is still knocking off the rust and hurt ego after another loss to the Knicks.

13. Indiana Pacers 8-6

The Pacers had won 7-8 then the injury to Brogdon has added to an injury-plagued first part of the season. They did get Turner back to try and stabilize the team.

14. Minnesota Timberwolves 8-6

The Timberwolves were playing good basketball coming into last week but with the absence of Wiggins (personal, bereavement) the T-Wolves have been treading water. Towns continue to play at an All NBA level.

Middle of the Pack

15. Orlando Magic 6-7

The Magic started off the season slowly but have put together three wins in a row. They are lead by Eastern Conference player of the week Nikola Vucevic. Markelle Fultz is this season feel-good story.

16. Charlotte Hornets 6-8

The Hornets have treaded water for most of the year but they are well ahead of pre-season predictions at 6-8

17. Brooklyn Nets 5-8

Kyrie Irving has missed a few games in the last week which has put a strain on an already short-handed nets team.

18. Sacramento Kings 5-7

The loss of DeAaron Fox has slowed down the King’s progress but Bogdan Bogdanovic has picked up the scoring slack and hopefully, with Hield picking up his scoring they can weather the storm.

19. Oklahoma City Thunder 5-8

Chris Paul has started to pick up his game the last two weeks having a vintage performance vs the 76ers. Until he is traded having a HOF point guard on your team is invaluable to the younger core of the Thunder

20. Memphis Grizzlies 5-8

Rookie JA Morant has lived up to the hype and the Grizzlies had won three in a row before a blow out loss to the Nuggets.

21. Detroit Pistons 4-9

Even with the return of Blake Griffin, the Pistons have underperformed for most of the season.

Bottom Tier

22. Portland Trailblazers 5-9

The Blazers have gone the route of the 2018-2019 Rockets hoping Melo can solve some of there problems history shows they are in a world of trouble.

23. Atlanta Hawks 4-8

After a 1-4 road trip, the young Hawks are starting to struggle with the loss of John Collins and the inconsistencies of a young team

Going in the wrong direction

24. San Antonio Spurs 5-9

Can you remember the last time a Popovich team lost six in a row that is the losing streak this current Spurs team is in the midst of?

25. Chicago Bulls 4-10

The Bulls have struggled losing three in a row. The only bright spot is that the young team is getting plenty of experience.

26. Clevland Cavaliers 4-9

Collin Sexton has played better recently and with a possible Kevin Love trade it may be times for the young guard to take it up a level

27. New Orleans Pelicans 4-9

Honestly, I could write the same summary as last week. It is hard to judge the Pelicans with the mismatch lineups they have had all year.

28. Washington Wizards 3-8

Same as last week not much good can be written about the Wizards still bad on defense and no relief in sight.

29. New York Knicks 4-10

Congratulations Knicks you aren’t the worst team in the league! Also, you are 2-0 vs the Mavs and Porzingis so you have that going for you.

Power Rankings Drumroll, please…….

30. Golden State Warriors 2-12

The Warriors are one year removed from being the top team every week in power rankings to being below the Knicks at 30. It is all-out tank mode now for the Warriors.
