Oh my goodness everyone! Did you see that? On Monday night we all witnessed something special in Dallas. Luka Dončić did something that very few have done at his age. Moreover, it was quite historic what he accomplished against the Spurs.
Luka Dončic MVP
Luka Dončić is a special player. Furthermore, the evidence has been there the whole time. I don"t think people knew to what extent though. Does this bring Luka Dončić into the MVP discussion?
His Ridiculous MVP Performance
What Dončić did Monday was ridiculous. He posted 42 points, 12 assists, and 11 rebounds. Now let that sink in. This 20 year old dropped 42 points into a triple double stat-line. This is just absolutely ridiculous! One other NBA player has done this. That player is LeBron. Furthermore, he is the youngest player to do so. In addition to being the only Dallas Mavericks player to ever drop a 42 point triple-double. Yeah, Dirk Nowitzki only had two triple-doubles during his career. Dončic has 14 in his two year career, with six this season. Where does this place Luka in Mavericks history?
Is Luka the Maverick"s Lebron?
This statement seems ridiculous right now, but actually it"s not too insane. A performance like that puts you in another realm of superstar. According to USA Today, “Magic Johnson and Oscar Robertson were 21 before they hit those marks on their career resumes. No player 20 or younger, including [Lebron] James, has averaged more points or assists than Doncic."
LeBron James himself commented on Luka"s game, saying “I love his game, his ability to not only shots for himself, but you guys know I love the fact that he can get great looks for his teammates. That"s what I thrive on, that"s what I"ve always believed in, and he just plays the game the right way." That"s pretty high praise. The second-year NBA player deserves it though. The stats prove it too.
Stats
All together he has six triple-doubles in only 13 games. He averages 29.5 points and 9.3 assists. In addition, he also averages ten rebounds a game. Advanced stats show that his true shooting percentage is 61.4. His offensive rating is 113.1. That shows that Luka is productive on the offensive end. Luka is currently ranked fourth in points per game league-wide. He also shoots 47.1 percent from the field. Which is 5 percent higher than James Harden.
MVP Calibre?
Does Luka Dončic belong in the MVP discussion. Absolutely! He has to be in the top three in the league now. It"s Giannis Antetokounmpo, James Harden, and Dončic is right there.
