My strategy in Fanduel DFS during any given week is usually to pay up for the high-volume workhorse backs who are involved in the passing game. In order to do that, I try to find low-price value plays at the other positions.
Below you’ll see some players I might spend up for based on opportunity. On the contrary, you’ll find some low priced; value plays that should get an opportunity on the field as well as give you some leverage in terms of ownership. What I look for when selecting my plays of the week are Volume, Consistency, Matchup, Value, and Opportunity.
Quarterbacks
Play of the Slate:
Sam Darnold vs. OAK – $7,400
In the last two games, Sam Darnold was the fantasy QB7 and QB5. Coming off his best game of the season, throwing four touchdowns against the Washington secondary, he could put up similar numbers against a beatable Oakland defense. Darnold is one of the cheaper quarterbacks and could be a popular but safe play in a problematic slate where value is needed.
Other Top Plays at the Position:
Mitch Trubisky vs. NYG – $7,000
Jeff Driskel @ WAS – $7,300
Matt Ryan vs. TB – $7,900
Russell Wilson @ PHI – $8,200
Drew Brees vs. CAR – $8,500
Runningbacks
Play of the Slate:
Leonard Fournette @ TEN – $7,000
Coming off his lowest rush attempt total of the season, look for Fournette to have a bounce-back game against the Titans who are at the bottom of defending pass-catching backs. Doug Marrone came out and said it was his fault they didn’t run the ball enough, so more touches this week should be a given. After two back-to-back quiet games for Fournette, he could see lower ownership, making him an excellent DFS play for tournaments as well as cash contests.
Other Top Plays at the Position:
Derrius Guice vs. DET – $5,400
Kareem Hunt vs. MIA – $5,600
Le’Veon Bell vs. OAK – $7,300
Saquon Barkley @ CHI – $7,900
Alvin Kamara vs. CAR – $8,300
Wide Receivers
Play of the Slate:
Allen Robinson vs. NYG – $7,500
Robinson is a great candidate for a bounce-back game against the Giants defense who has been getting torched by wide receivers this season. He has had a massive target share on the Nagy run offense, and with his recent poor play could lead to a less chalky play this week in DFS.
Other Top Plays at the Position:
Robby Anderson vs. OAK – $5,400
Hunter Renfrow @ NYJ – $5,900
James Washington @ CIN – $6,100
Jarvis Landry – $6,900
Calvin Ridley vs. TB – $6,700
Julio Jones vs. TB – $8,400
Tight Ends
Play of the Slate:
Vance McDonald – $5,300
With guys priced up at other positions, value is going to be needed at the tight end position. McDonald is a great play this week at Cincinnati for his price. With an offense that might be without James Conner, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Diontae Johnson, he could see a lot of targets from Mason Rudolph.
Other Top Plays at the Position:
Noah Fant @ BUF – $5,100
Ben Watson vs. DAL – $5,300
Ryan Griffin – vs. OAK – $5,600
Darren Waller @ NYJ – $6,200
Defense/Special Teams
Play of the Slate:
Atlanta Falcons vs. TB – $4,300
The Falcons have more sacks in the last two games (11) then they had all season prior (7). So, targeting defenses that pressure is a great way to get a solid floor from your defense. A matchup against the turnover-prone Jameis Winston could be the perfect matchup to get Atlanta in your lineups.
Other Top Plays at the Position:
New York Jets – $3,600
New Orleans Saints vs. CAR – $4,900
Buffalo Bills vs. DEN – $4,700
Good luck and be sure to come back next week for the Fanduel DFS Week 13 edition!
