Michigan Wolverines: Week 12 Recap

In a game that most people considered a trap game, Michigan traveled to Indiana to take on the Hoosiers.

1st Quarter

Indiana starts with the ball and drives downfield for an easy touchdown. Indiana used a mix of run and pass plays to keep the Michigan defense on its toes and walk into the end zone. 7-0 Indiana before Michigan can even touch the ball.

On Michigan’s ensuing drive, Shea Patterson was a perfect seven of seven for 70 yards on the drive. The drive ended with a touchdown pass to wide receiver Ronnie Bell, tied the game at seven.

2nd Quarter

Indiana once again marches downfield led by quarterback Peyton Ramsey. They will take a 14-7 lead over the Wolverines as the trap game is in full force.

Michigan will respond with another answering drive with a touchdown of their own on a pass from Patterson to Peoples-Jones. Although, the Wolverines may have been lucky on the drive. Patterson missed three open wide receivers on the drive that would also have been touchdowns.

After both teams share a couple of punting drives. Michigan throws the ball all drive to Nico Collins who had three catches on the drive that ended in a touchdown for the wide receiver. Patterson now has three touchdowns in this game, after having four last week vs MSU. Michigan takes its first lead of the game 21-14.

3rd Quarter

Michigan starts the second half with the ball and they get aggressive and go for it on 4th down. Trying to continue their drive proves effective for the time being as they make it for a fresh set of downs. However, their drive stalls out after, and Nordin hits a 27-yard field goal to go up 24-14.

On Michigan’s next drive they hit wide receiver Collins for a 76-yard touchdown. This set a new career-high for Collins in yards and touchdowns in a game. Patterson is Michigan’s first quarterback to ever have back to back four-touchdown games. The Collins touchdown was followed by a successful two-point conversion to bring the score to 32-14 Michigan.

Indiana continues to let the game get out of hand as they allow a sack-fumble by Michigan defensive end Josh Uche. Michigan recovers and takes over at the 19-yard line.

On the very next play, Patterson hits Collins again for the 19-yard score. Collins adds to his career day, as Patterson gets his fifth touchdown of the game. Michigan 39 – Indiana 14.

4th Quarter

In the 4th quarter, Indiana changes quarterbacks and switches to a run-heavy offense. Basically admitting defeat, they aided in running the clock out. Michigan ran more run plays then they did during the rest of the game but left Patterson in and had him throw when needed. However, this did lead to Patterson’s first and only interception of the game. Either way, this potential trap game fell way short and Michigan rolls Indiana.

The score would not change and Michigan will take home the win 39-14.

Player of the game:
