Baltimore Ravens – 49ers Preview

The game of Thanksgiving week is this Sunday afternoon matchup. The 10-1 San Francisco 49ers travel to Baltimore to face the 9-2 Ravens. This has the makings of an epic showdown. The 49ers have the top-ranked defense in the NFL, with the Ravens possessing the second-ranked offense.

Lamar Jackson Key For Baltimore

Baltimore’s offense relies on quarterback Lamar Jackson, with his dynamic running ability. It forces opposing defenses to hesitate, allowing running lanes for Jackson. The 49ers’ weakness is run defense, currently 19th in the NFL. The top-ranked Ravens rushing attack will need to exploit this to win.

Jackson has shown in recent weeks he is much improved as a passer, although the 49ers defense will not make it easy for him. The Ravens are a unique team to gameplan for, and it will be tough to stop the Ravens from running the ball at will.

49ers Defense Needs A Big Game

The strength of this 49ers team is its defense, and they will need to be at their best on Sunday. Their pass rush is a top unit in the NFL, led by Arik Armstead with ten sacks, as well as standout rookie Nick Bosa.

The Ravens should match up well, with a top tier offensive line. They are 23rd in the NFL, allowing only 22 sacks in 11 games. The nuanced rushing offense Baltimore runs should confuse the 49ers pass rush. Teams find it hard to sack Jackson, and their offense is based on misdirection.

Baltimore Defense in Dominant Form

After a slow start, the Ravens defense has improved massively during their winning run. Baltimore hasn’t allowed more than 20 points in six games, holding the Rams and Texans to 13 combined points.

The pass rush has improved after a very slow start, and the secondary has been improved by Marcus Peters and Jimmy Smith. They can now match up with most teams, especially the 49ers. The 49ers are the second-best rushing attack in the league, but this is the strength of the Ravens defense.

This is a massive game for both teams as they look to continue their winning runs.
