A historic season for the Baltimore Ravens ended with a win on Sunday. The Ravens clinched a twelfth consecutive win with a 28-10 beat down of the Pittsburgh Steelers. This win will have felt sweet for Baltimore, securing a win over their biggest rivals in a game where they rested key starters.
Historic Rushing Attack
The Ravens have gone against the grain with their rushing attack this year, and it has cemented them a place in history. They broke the New England Patriots 1978 record for most rushing yards in a season. They set the record with 3,296 yards, beating the Patriots record by 131.
Despite missing quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Mark Ingram, the Ravens still went for 233 yards rushing. Backup Gus Edwards carried the load for 130 yards, with rookie Justice Hill showing promise with 39 yards and a touchdown. They did this despite facing a Steelers defense ranked fifth in the NFL.
Ravens Defense Top Five Unit
The Baltimore defense has massively improved throughout the season and is now a legitimate force. The Steelers offense was missing key players like James Connor and Mason Rudolph, but the Ravens smothered them. Backup quarterback Devlin Hodges was held to 9/25 for 95 yards. Running back Benny Snell Jr was the only bright spot with 91 rushing yards and their sole touchdown.
The Ravens constantly exerted pressure, forcing Hodges to make errant throws. They also added a final humiliation in the final quarter by forcing a safety. The Ravens offense has stolen the headlines this season, but the defense is top tier also.
Play-Off Bound
The Ravens secured their first-round bye with last week’s win against the Cleveland Browns. With the best NFL record at 14-2, the Ravens can take it easy this coming week. As the wildcard round takes place, they can get healthy and return fresh the following weekend.
The Ravens have secured home-field advantage so they will have plenty of support. They will play either the Tennessee Titans/Buffalo Bills or Houston Texans on Saturday, January 11th. They will feel confident of beating them all, but anything can happen in playoff football.
