Maryland faces a tough task this week in Big Ten play

The Maryland Terrapins await their biggest challenge of the season Tuesday night. A top 15 showdown between two of the Big Tens best. The 11th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes make their way to Xfinity Center for what will be a super showdown. Both teams have struggled a bit recently but this game will certainly show which side is a true Big Ten title contender.

Terps building momentum

Following two deflating losses to Penn State and a depleted Seton Hall team, Maryland has now won two straight including a very impressive victory over Indiana last Saturday. The Hoosiers had entered the game 11-2 and we’re averaging 80 points per game. However, they ran into a Terps team that started clicking on all cylinders. The Terps held Indiana to just 59 points and 25 points at halftime.

The trio of Jalen Smith, Anthony Cowan Jr, and Aaron Wiggins combined for 45 points to lead the way. Also during the game, Cowan Jr reached the 1,600 career point mark.

Buckeyes reeling

Not too long ago Ohio State was looking like the most dominant team in the land. With a blowout wins over Villanova, at the time number 7 North Carolina, and number 6 Kentucky the Buckeyes proved they were legit. However, they have lost back to back games to an upstart West Virginia team and then to Wisconsin. Even more surprising that both of these losses came at home for Ohio State. The Buckeyes are still holding tight at number 11 and led by Kaleb Wesson this will be a tightly contested game.

Hawkeyes await

After Ohio State, another challenge awaits for Maryland. A trip to Carver-Hawkeye Arena to take on an Iowa team that has been in the top 25 recently. Luke Garza is averaging 22 points and 10 rebounds per game and has Iowa looking like a force. No matter the outcome against the Buckeyes this will be a difficult follow-up game on a Friday night.

LET’S GO MARYLAND!

The Big Ten is going to be tough this season. With the exception of Northwestern, every team has at least one conference victory. A win over Ohio State would push the Terps to 3-1 in conference play sitting right behind Michigan State who is off to a 4-0 start in conference play. A win tonight and over Iowa and Maryland will find its way back into the top 10.

You can catch the game on ESPN at 7 pm. Be loud and wear white and Go Maryland!
