Andre Drummond to Cleveland Trade Grades

Receive: Brandon Knight, John Henson, 2023 Cleveland/Golden State second

On paper, it looks like the Pistons got hosed, but I don’t mind this trade for Detroit. It appears Andre Drummond is leaving in free agency, which reduced his trade value significantly. Brandon Knight, John Henson, and a second was likely the best deal they were going to get. 

The direct assets don’t do much for the Pistons, but this trade shows they are commited to the rebuild. That seems to be the best option as this organization has not been successful over the past decade. Also, not to mention, by losing games the rest of the season, Detroit will have better odds at getting a high pick in the draft lottery. This move had to be done.

Cleveland Cavaliers:

Receive: Andre Drummond

As for the Cavaliers, this deal was a no-brainer. Brandon Knight, John Henson, and a 2023 second don’t mean much to this franchise. However, acquiring Andre Drummond may intrigue him to want to sign long-term in the off-season. Cleveland doesn’t have a pressing need for him, but getting an elite rebounder like Drummond for next to nothing warrants a good grade.
