The Patriots traded a second-round pick for Mohamed Sanu in the middle of the season from the Falcons because the Patriots were in need of another receiver. Sanu was expected to make a major impact on the Patriots but did not fulfill his role as expected. Should the Patriots cut Mohamed Sanu or keep him?
Should the Patriots cut Mohamed Sanu?
Mohamed Sanu 2019 – 2020 season
Mohamed Sanu immediately stepped into the number two receiver role. Sanu is an insane athlete and he can run, pass, and receive the football. He was expected to make an immediate impact for the Patriots but failed to be a scary receiver. Sanu received two touchdowns, 59 receptions, and 520 receiving yards. Sanu is going onto 31 years old this season, which is old for an NFL receiver. The connection between Tom Brady and Sanu was not on point which led to a lot of sloppy plays on offense. This led to the team losing major games which locked them into the three seed. He was an average punt returner for the team, but nothing special.
Cap Space if Sanu was cut
Going into the 2020 season Sanu is making 6,500,000 million dollars. Sanu has one more year left on his contract and he is a free agent in 2021. If the Patriots cut Sanu this would free up a lot of cap space this season. This could help the Patriots sign back some major players this offseason. Overall I believe the Patriots should keep Sanu for this season and see how next season goes.
